    A Sruxxptp Srecractr.—We have @ con-
tinual succession of fetes, all surpassing one
another in splendonr : we have positively no
repase, and the King had mo sooner returned
trom his evening drive than crowds of car-
riages and pedestrians began to assemble in
that most filthy, yet most k vely and most
    improvable thoroughfare, Santa Lucia. The
Freneh sea-fight was to come of this evening.

What it would be hike noone had any con-)

and streets, windows, and housetops were

like firetlics over the waters, while greater
lights, suspended in mid air, told us the |
position of the fleet whieh was to astonish |
us by its novel exhibition. Now a fire bal-
Joon ascends from Torre del Greco, and rises
over the gloomy mountain which has lately
caused such havoc ‘there ; for the Torrese,
uniting things temporal with things eternal,
are eelebrating the anniversary of one of
their numerous Madunnas and the visit of
Victor Emmanuel. Then rockets and then
lights shot up from Portici, Resina, and all
round the coast, bringing into temporary sight
the beautiful outline ot the land. Stull the
Geet made no sign, and the vast crowd. in-
stead of those uproarious demonstrations 0!
hapatience which John Bull might bave
wade after a delay of two hours, remained as
quiet as lambs, amusing themselves alter-
wately by clapping their bands or singing
    their popular airs.

At last a rocket rose over the Palace,
bursting in the air, and scattering its tri-
coloured lights in all directions, aud then an-,
other, and the work began. Nine ships of
the line and a smaller steamer poured out
their broadsides with terrible rapidity ; two
and two they engaged, and by the flashing of
the discharges, hulls and rigging were brought
into bold relief. In the intervals of com-)
parative lull, when only @ dropping shot
could bere and there be beard, the Rifles in
the rigging engaged, and sparks, as it were,
played aboat the upper parts of the vessels,
ahd then the tremendous broadsides peured
out again and again, continuing without in-
termission for full half an hour. I can ill
describe the worderful pictorial effects of
this scene. The dense volumes of smoke rising
over the vessels, and rendered visible by the
bright dashing of the eannun; the tremendous
    — of the bruadside~, repeated * echoes, if
possibfe, still louder, for Santa Lucia is al-
snost an enclosed space; the shots of the
rifles, playing like freflies around the rig-|
ging, the fine tracery of which seemed to be |
paioted on the dark canvass of the sky, the!
sanumerable small boats which covered the
sea in the interval between the fleet and
land—all formed a novel and magnificent
spectacle whieh would have furnished grand
materials co the painter, as it has fascinated
alk-whe- witnessed it. The carriages were

glected, or the means for its rectification are Hiisap
lied. Neither need be the case at the present claay 9

Sefore presenting this wonderful cleansing rem-
edy to the North American public, Dr, Kanwar
was determined to test its medicinal powers for the
cure of the class of diseases for which it is prescribed
in the South American Provinces, as it isa fact well
    known te all physiologists teat

    SCROFULA, LEPROSY, SYPHILIs,

and its horrible train of concomitants, prevai’ ia the

more malignant degree then in the North. In fact
there is scarcely a family in any of the South Am-

    | eriean Provinces that is free from Scrofula, or its

kindred diseases. It runs in the blood of all its

} people, and has become established as a constitu-
