Back in Boston, she trained and entered the nursing profession. Later, at
a college in Connecticut, Louise majored in English, with extra literature and
writing courses, and minored in Commercial Art and Sculpture. She received two
college poetry prizes - first and third. Her poetry is in three anthologies.
Several of her prose pieces have been published in magazines. Move Smart, Boy
is her first novel.
Louise's three children are scattered across the United States:
Massachusetts, California, and Hawaii. She loves being a grandmother.
Louise has worked in hospitals in Connecticut, California, and
Massachusetts; and latterly cared for her father in Ontario during his final
three years. She has retired from nursing.
Over the years Louise kept returning to Prince Edward Island to visit. In
1990, she finally achieved her long-time goal to move back permanently to her
beloved Island.
BOOK LAUNCHING PLANNED
The Natural History Society, the Island Nature Trust, and Ragweed press
will formally launch Geoff Hogan's book Familiar Birds of Prince Edward Island
on Thursday, July llth at the Farm Centre on University Avenue. The launching
will commence at 7:30 P.M. and will feature a slide show featuring the pictures
from the book and a talk by Geoff. In addition, Geoff will be on hand to
autograph copies of the book either brought in to the launching or purchased
from Ragweed Press at the launching.
The Natural History Society has purchased 25 copies of the book from
Ragweed Press. The books are available from the Society for a price of $12.95
if you pick them up and for $15.00 if you wish them mailed. The profits from
the sales will be returned to the Society's book fund. You can obtain your copy
by contacting Barb Currie at 894-9297.

July 1l: The Natural History Society, the Island Nature Trust, and Ragweed
Press will hold a book launching for Geoff Hogan's new book Familiar Birds
of Prince Edward Island. The launch will start at the Farm Centre at /:30
P.M. Geoff will be on hand to autograph issues of the book.
July 10 - 18: The P.E.I. Department of Energy and Forestry will be hosting open
houses at six locations across the province to provide background
information on the Biomass Cogeneration Proposal. The sessions should
allow individuals to respond more effectively to the Department of
Environment's call for public comment on the terms of reference for the
Environmental Impact Assessment of the proposal.
July 24: Final date for presentation of written comments to Department of
Environment on the Biomass Cogeneration Proposal.
Oct. 1: Jim Wolford from Acadia University will be the Society's guest lecturer
on the Natural History of Intertidal Mud (Gummy Mud) of Acadia. The
meeting will start at 7:30 P.M. at the Farm Centre.
Nov. 5: Jennifer Brown will be the Society's guest lecturer for the monthly
meeting. She will speak on Bats. The meeting starts at 7:30 P.M.
Dec. 3: The monthly meeting of the Natural History Society will feature Diane
Griffin with "Where are we Going". The meeting will commence at 7:30 P.M.
at the Farm Centre.
