    Edited Text
We forgot last week to speak a word
for our friends Messrs, John and Jemes
Neid—sons of J. Reid, Esq., of St. Elea-
nor’s—who have recently entered into a
co-partnership in the dry goods and gene-
ral retail business. ‘They are both smart
business men, and we doubt not but that
the people of Crapaud and surrounding
country, will hail with gladness a good
store and two such clever young men into
their midst. We wish them every success.

Tur horse ‘* Wilmot Ilero,” raised by
Mr. Donald Taylor, North Bedeque, three
years old, sired by the ** Clyde,” and took
tho first prize at the Prince County Exhi-
bition last Fall, was sold on Monday last
for the handsome sum of ÂŁ82 10s., to Mr.
ilugh Monagle, of Sussex Vale, N. B., |
for the Sussex Agricultural Society. Well!
    done Prince County,

    AMONG our new advertisements to-day,
will be found one from Robert Gordon,
Esq., as Auctioneer and Land Broker. As
many persons aro constantly making en-
quiry about the Western section of the Is
land, we would advise them to address
Mr. Gordon, who, from his long residence
in, and general knowledge of, that sec-
tion of the country, will be able to supply
accurate and full information to them.
    Versons making consignments will also,
we doubt not, find him worthy of their
    patronage,

Tn ‘ spirits” of the North Star are still
rapping away at every body who will not
    swallow their annexation sentiments and
bear their low abuse. ‘The poor fellows,
they will soon need to call up some fami-
liar spirits, it they persist in their present
mad career. We do not wonder ot this
Island being too small to afford an oppor-
tunity to such a learned, profound and
able man as Ross to display his talents.
‘The wonder is that such an able news-
prper conductor as past experience has
shown him to be, should be wasting his
abilities in endeavoring to achieve what it
is certain nature never intended him for,

For the information of a few individuals
who seem tq be much tickled aboutit, and
in order to contradict their lying reports,
we state that the Rey. A. S. DesBrisay, is
not nor never was the editor of this paper,
and has no connection with it, He has a
few times contributed to its columns, and
ithis slanderers had as much brains as he!
has, and felt inclined, they might have
    done the same,

A rather unusual occurrence, and one
which has afforded a good deal of talk and
erded in a law suit, took place on Sunday
morning last, The Rey. Mr. Crawtord
and his people had assembled on the shore
for the purpose of emmersing two or three
individuals, among whom was a girl nam-
ed Robinson, When the Rey, gentleman
avas about to proceed into the water with
the girl, her mother, widow Robinson, in-
terfered, and requested the minister not
to emmerse her child, stating that she had
already been baptized; he, however, per-
sisted, when a scufile took place. An in-
dividual attempted to hold the old lady,
but she proved too valiant for him, and
releasing herself, she rushed out into the
water alter the minister and rescued her
girlfrom him. It is a pity some better
understanding had not existed between |
the minister und the parent previously, as
the seene whatever else may be said ot it,
was not avery pleasant one, and not at all
fit fora Sabbath morning service, or calcula-
ted to make any good impression upoa the
    crowd who witnessed it,

“ Barney O'Share” will appear next week.

Oats are still selling at 2s 3d; potatoes Is
per bushel. Eggs 9d per dozen; Butter lid
    per Ib., and very scarce.

The Progress announces that the contro-
versy between Mr. Murray and Mr. Craw-
ford, will be stopped in that paper after this
    week,

The following gentlemen have been ap-
    pointed members of the Board of Works;

    Tlon. R. P. Haythorne,

    lion. A. A. McDonald,

    Hon. Alex. Laird,
and the Colonial Secretary and the Commis-
sioner of Publick Lands, ex-ofleto. Superin-
    tendents of Public Works are—

Mr. B, Williams for Queen’s County.

Mr. John Clay for Prince County.

Mr. ‘Thomas Clay for King’s County.

We are pleased to learn from the Montreal
Daily News, of the 26th ult., that among the
gentlemen who passed theit final examination
at McGill College, Montreal, on the 2vrd ult.,
as M.D). C.M., were Mr, F, Cox, of this City
(son of the late J. B: Cox, Esq., of Morell),
and Mr, 2, McLaren, of New Verth.— /sl.

    Arrivels from Europe.

    We notice the Brig Aemadin, Captain ITull, ;
belonging to KR. T. Holman, Nsq.. of this place, |
arrived on Monday the 10th ist., in 28 days from |
Liverpool, being the fastest. passage reported this |
epring. We are glad to find that the Kewadin
fully sustains the reputation she las for fast sail-
ing, and hope she may continue to nnke her trips
with the same regularity she has hitherto done,
and be a suecess financially to her enterprizing
owner, Who has been the menng of establishing
the first direct line between this port and Liver:
pool; a convenience the business men ot this
    place ought not soon forget,
