    London, July 5.
    The Austrian Government has initiated
    4he work of disarming by leaves of ul s-nce
    - of 86,000 men, in the standing army.
    The Skoupteheria or National Chamber
    ‘of Servia, has passed a luw excluding
    prince Alexander Kasa Georgewitch anc
    his family from all right of succession to
    the ‘Throne. The regulation of the suc-
    cession having been completed the Cham-
    yer adjourned. Milan was to-day con-
    socrated and anointed at the Cathedral as
    the Sovereign Prince of Servia with the
    gnost imposing religious and military cer-
    anonies.

    New York, 6th,

    During a riot at s Fenian Pic-nic at
    Belleveu Gardens on the 4th, the police
    were attacked with muskets and swords
    dy some soldiers of the fourth Fenian
    regiment, but the potice speadily overcame
    them and quelled the disturbance.

    There were seyeral deaths from exces-
    sive heat yesterday,

    The Democratic National Conyention
    has not yet nominated a candidate for the
    Presidency.

    ~The Halifax ‘ Express’ contains a well
    written letter froma ‘Tourist to Truro,
    Pictou, and P. E, Island. We intended
    to have reprodnced in our columns this
    week, but in consequence of publishing
    Mr. Punshon’s lecture, we are obliged to
    lay it, together with some other matter,
    aside until next week.

    Whelan’s trial is to come off at the
    Assizes at Ottawa, which will open on
    the 2nd of September.

    $00 laborers are advertised for in St.
    John, N. B., papers, at wages from $1.20
    to $1.25 per day, to work on the west-
    ern extension line of railway.

    one of its kind, and is calculated to instruct,
    to amuse, and to benefft. It has a wide cir-
    culation in the United States, and also in the

    Yerature and a*ashicn it is well worthy of it.
    It is issued from the extensive publishing es-
    tablishment of Charles J+ Peterson, 306 Chest-
    nut Street, Philadelphia, —Terms $2 a year.

    ‘The Masonic Mon June has also
    made its appearance, magazine is a
    staunch supporter of the: ionic Craft, and

    is, in onr opinion, an interesting periodical to
    the Masons who have the pleasure of perusing
    il. Every Mason should subscribe to it. Ty
    G. Wadman, Publisher, 86 Kilby Strect, Bos-

    vious number, while the fushion plates and
    engravings are more than ordinarily well ex-
