    CATTLE 8nO*R,

Tue fire Cattle Show and sale of Stock

‘wnder the auspices of the Stock Form Oew-

tmieeioners, came off, as alvertived, in tiie

Oity on Tuorday lat. The place selected,
namely, Holland Grove, was admirably ad-
apted for an exhibition ground, both on ac-
count of its freedom from dust and the facili-

ties it afforded for arranging the various kinds |
of Stock. The system of admission hy ticket |

gave some dissutisfaction; but we are happy
to learn th pon the whole it proved quite
a success, ¢ public should remember that
there is no little expense connected with these
exhibitions, dnd that one*of the fairest: means
to meet that outlay, at least in part, is a small
admission fee from those Who take sufficient

interest in the Agricultural improvement of
the country to attend such shows or exhibi-|

tions, On Tuesday last the fee charged was
only 9., whereas the amount generally de-
manded on such accasiofy in the other Pro-
vinces is 1s, Gd., therefore, in our opinion,
no reasonably person had any ground to com-
    plain, a
    The Stockyexhibition, particularly in regard
to quality, w hiy ereditableto the Colony,
We think we have seen a greater variety on
former occasions of the kind, of at least
Hotes and hornéd cattle. The sheep were
parti@glanly Worthy of mention, several of the
specini®ps of witith would do discredit to an
exibition ‘in anf country in the world. Some
of the pigs, alsb were very superior, though
we think that an Island like this from which
so much pork is exported could display a
much greater varigty of these animals than
the show ground exhibited on Tuesday last.
‘The blood horses on competition were good,
but not equal to what we liave seen in former
years; hdthe horned cattle exhibited, though
not to be dispised in size or nppearance, were
in number and variety rather a discredit to
the Colony, ‘Lhe various prizes were awarded
    as follows :—

It is rumored to-day that the New Bruns
wick und Nova Scotia Delegates in England
have agreed to give P, EB. Island £200,000 it
the will only Consent to enter Confederation.
Should the Union be consummated on this
basis, it proves the great value of the services
which the opponents of the Quebee Scheme
have conferred upon the Colony. We should
like to know, however, whether this offer is
clogged with any conditions that would, in a
few years, take the whole 200,000 pounds
    from us in another way.—/d,

The Presbytery of P. KE. Island, at its late
meeting, in noticing certain proceedings re-
ported in the public press, as having occurred
in Souris,at the public Tea party in aid of the

    * Protestant Church there, scems to have been
under the impression that the arrangements
for that Tea party were carried out under the
direction of the Rev. Mr. Crawford and his
Session; but the ne and arrangements of
that Party were re er the direction of w com-
mittee resident ner Sour} It is to he re-
gretted that this fuct was ee known to the
Presbytery at itsy myeting ‘in Summerside, as
    the resolution there’passedyind since publish-
ed, appears to some extent, toretlect on parties
who had no connexion with the matter of
which the Presbytery strongly disapproved. —
