interpretive nature trail along the wetland. This trail is
wheelchair accessible and is now used by residents and also by
students at Charlottetown Rural High School as it provides a
wonderful outdoor classroom.
The P.E.I. Wetland Stewardship Program works with the
landowner(s) and community discussing the various approaches to
protecting and enhancing wetlands. This program provides an
excellent opportunity for communities interested in natural
history, wetland protection, habitat enhancement and recreational
activities. The options are endless: develop ae natural
interpretive trail for residents use, develop public property for
wildlife use, or develop a management plan for an entire watershed
and improve a large area for wildlife use.
The Wetland Stewardship Program can provide technical
assistance, help to secure funding, assist with landowner contact,
and offer assistance on the development of the project. Steward-
ship staff would continue to offer support for the duration of the
project as well as offer suggestions for continuation or expansion
of the original goal.
If you are interested in discussing a project applicable to
your area and would like some assistance, please feel free to
contact either Brenda Brydon, Rosemary Curley, or Tom Duffy at 368-
4683.
