    The Ottawa Times of Saturday morning says, that
    the Upper Cunadians would not pull a trigger tockeep
    Nova Scotia into the Union a day longer than she de-

    sired. Whatever Imperial Government may do, Cana-
    da will acquiesce in; that Repeal is no question for the
    Dominion Parliament, but stiould Great Britain grant
    it, Cahada would be consoled by saving a large expen-
    diture on Intercolonial Railway, which would then only
    fo tu St. John, N. B. It is necessary fur Canada to

    ve winter seaports, but they can, if necessary, get
    along without Nova Scotia, It invites Nova tians
    to take Railway question into account.

    Loudon, Jan, 17,—The Turkish Government is seek-
    ing to raise a loan in the English market, the proceeds
    of which are to be applied to improving navigation at
    the moath of the Danube.

    Advices from Hong Kong and Stianghai have been
    received, which state that anothor battle had been
    fought between the rebels and Imperialists at Shang-
    turn, ‘The Laperialiet army, which was under the com-

    Cork, Jan, 17,—A viol of explosive flnid, known as
    Greek fire, was thrown yesterday at one of the witnesses
    for the Government in the Fenian trials; Lut the inate-

    has been obtained to the perpetrator,

    Dublin, Jan. 17.--At the examination of Lennon

    yesterday, sergeant Kelly, the eutvivor of the two po-;

    licemen who Were shot at Chepaside, abd a woman,
    both swore that they fully recognized the prisoner as
    the mau who fired the pistol shot which wounded one
    policeman and killed another.

    London, Jan. 18. When the Cunard etoamer Scotia,
    from New York for Liverpool, entered the port of
    Queenstown late last night for the usual transfer of the
    London and [rish passengers and mails, a strong police
    foree quietly weut aboard and arreated Messrs. George
    Franvis Train, Grinnell and Gee, three of the passen-

    re who sailed for New York. It 1s understood that
    these men were taken into custody on the charge of he-
    ing active members of the American branch of the Fe-
    nian organization. These proceedings,uaturally enough,
    eativo considerable excitement here, and elaewhere
    throughout the Kingdom, aud especially among Atueri-
    ean residents.

    The Prussian Diet passed a bill for a Railway loan
    of forty millions.

    Fenians, or juetifying his arrest by the British police
    on suspicion, Train asserte that he came over to Eng-

    Moutreal, Jan. 20. Further developments in regard
    to Heuny, the liquor dyaler, who absconded to the
    States, show that the loss to the Customs, throagh his
    operations, amount to 120,00) dollars. A portion of his
    cellar was set apart as a bonded warehonse, It is sup-

    osed that he'drew liquor by means of a saction pump,

    The remains of the late Emperor Maximilian arrived
    at Vienna on the 18th, by a special train from Trieste,
    in charge of a military escort. The train was met apon
