    Medical Notices,

    Holloway's Vills.x—Everybody’s Wish.—One of the
many causes of the eminent success of this medicine is
    the quiet, purifying effect it exerts over the circulation ;
it watches over the new blood forming from the food, in-
vigorates the distribution of the mature blood, and casts
out the old which has done its duty, and whose further
sresence becomes detrimental. By taking Holloway’s
Pints, agreeably te the accompanying instructions, every
person may attain the bust permissable state of health
without interfering materially with bis usual habits,
pleasures, or pursuits, The weak and nervous will find
thomselves invigorated by judicious doses of this medi-
cine, and by steady and persevering attention tnay con-
fidently hope for increased strength, greater comfort,
    and better health.

Its value is incalculable, For all diseases with which
children are afflicted during the process of tetthing,
Mrs. Winslow's Soothtog Syrup iv a safe and certain
remedy. It has stood the test of thirty years, and never
known to fail. Cures wind colic, regulates the bowels,
softens the gume and allays pain.

Brown’s Bronchial ‘Troches have been before the
sublic meny years. Each year finds them in new local-
ities in various parts of the world. The Troches are
pronounced universally euperior to all other articles
used for similar purposes. For relieving Coughe, Colds,
aud Throat Diseas, the Troches have been proved re-
    ptablo.

Brown's Vermifuge Comfils, or Worm Lozenges con-
tain no form of mercury to which many worm remedies
    owe their efficacy.

    THE PEOPLE'S FRIEND.

    Perry Davis’ Vegetable Pain Killer
Travellers are always liable to sudden attacks of dys-
entery and cholera morbus, and these occurring when!
absent from home are very unpleasant. l’erry Davin’)
Vegetable Pain Killer may always be relied upon in such
cases. As soon as you feel the y pas booed take one tea-
spoonful in a gill of new milk and molasses, anda gill of!
hot water. Stir well together and drink hot. Repeat
the dose every houruntil relieved. If the pain be severe,
bathe the bowels and back with the medicine, clear.
Fishermen, so often exposed to hurts by having their
skin pierced with hooks and fins of fish, can be much re-
lieved by bathing with a little Pain killer as soon as the
    accident occurs; in this way the anguish is soon abated ;
bathe as often as once in five minuets, say three or four
times, and you will seldom have any trouble

    | Prepare for Lent!
Wie Salw at the Kent Street Book Store: THE
' OF FICK OF TUB MALY WEEK. aeearding ta
\fhe Roman Missal and Breviary, in Latin and Ji gg lis Me
    | The week before Easter has been enlied by several
Inaues, from the ereat uty steries and various ceremonies
leelebrated and performed init, The Greeks and Latins
    auciently called it the Great Week, the Holy Week;
lsometunes the Painful Week, that is, the week of aus-
terities; also, the Week of Sorrows, tho days of the
i Cross or of sujerings. “We eallit the Great Week,”
says 8. Chrysostom, on Ps, 145, “ not that it consists of
7 greater number of days, or that the dave in it are lon
ger, buton account of the great things which God bas
wrought in it: for on these days was the tyranny of the
devil overthrown, death disarmed, sin and ity curse
taken away; heaven opened and made accesible, and
nen made fellows with the angels.”

The chief object of the Church in this weel, is to Âąe-
lebrate the memory of the passion and death of her Re-
‘deemer; every part of the sacred liturgy is directed to
Ithis end; the Chureh’s offiees, more svlemn and more
multiplied in this week than ia any other during the
whole yoar, are most especially adapted to excite in the
ihgarts of the Faithful those various sentiments of love
and gratitude, of compassion for the sufferings of our
Lord, of sorrow and detestation for sin, &., which
every Christian ought to cbrish in this holy time. It 10
with the sincore dwsire of exciting pious sentiments in
lthe heurte of the faithful, that the whole liturgy of the
Church for the Jfoly Week bas been collected in this
volume; and is prasented to the public, both ia the
Latin and @nglish languages. ‘Thus, while the pious
Christian unites his veiee with that of the Priest and of
the choir, he may also penctrate the sense of the divine
office, and sanction by the fervor of bis heart what he
pronounees with his tongue. For this reason, the
editor flatters himself that this book will not fail to
please all those who still entertain a due sense of piety
and religion; and may profit even those who, through a
jwant of instruction, seldom or never reflect on the great
    |mysteries which the Church commemorates during the
Holy Week. ‘The very reading of this most pious and
affecting part of the Church’s liturgy is capable of ex-
citing in their hearts a true and solid devotion.
