    ONTAGT I
V7] Pursnant to notice, a large and influ
m tial meeting was held in the Lower Monta.
rue Schoolhouse on Monday evening, the
th inst., for the purpose of taking int
onsideration matters relative to the new
Ferry Wharf now building at Aitkin’s
hore. Thomas Annear, Esq., was chosen
to preside ; and the undersigned was ay
    pointed Secretary.

ve R. Cameron, Esq., was the first speaker.
19 | He considered Aitkin’s shore the most
,os4 | Convenient place for the ferry wharf, as it
is the terminus of the roads leading from

building of the ney wharf is so far ad-

    Several other speakers addressed the
meeting, and fully endorsed what Mr

    Rowe, M.P.P. James A. Rutherfora,
Esq., Georgetown, also addressed the meet
ing Phe objections he had against the
present site were that the shareholders of
the steamer would not run their boat on
account of the distance between the two
'’ | wharves, and consequently the fare would
#“ | be increased. He also said that the rive:
froze some three weeks earlier across from

He was followed by Capt. J. Westaway,
