Plant. the railway and Steamship man, was in New Yorkon Nov, 14th. When asked about thc likelihood of s contest of the will of Henry B. Plant. by the widow. he- said that Mrs. Plant was dissatisfied with the provision made for her in the will, and had » retained counsel, but that no complaint had been served on the executor.- Acadian Recorder. Louis ll. Davies. , Nov. 15.- A large and representative audience was gathered in the Uigg Hull on Tuesday nigh t » hear Sir Louis Davies discuss some of the political questions of the day. Hon. D. A. Mc- Kinnon, a notive of Uigg, was the tirst. speakerlie made a practical and sound common-sense speech. dealing with provincial affairs iw a masterly manner. Ho was very well received- and was followed throughout with the closest attention. Sir Louis Davies. on coming forward was greeted with a very complimentary address referring to the many high and honored positions in which he served his ciuutry with distinguished ability. In reply he thanked the people for their appreciation of his work and thought Belfast was signally honored in having two of hor brightest sons -_-Hon. D. A. McKinnon and Judge McDonald -promoted to high and responsible positions. Sir Louie held the closest atttention of his horrors while he compared the record of the Laurier Government with that of their predecessors in odlce. The comparison, which was a fair and rea- sonable one, showed that the Liberals. had nothing to be eshamid of. 'They ' had, he claimed, redeemed their anti- election pledges. They' pledged them- selves that, if given an opportunity, theywould amicably and satisfactorily settle the Manitoba School Question-a question which had caused the greatest strife and bittiarnees. That question has been settled so that not a word of dissent is heard. That of it- self, he said. is enough to entitle the Laurier Cabinet to the lasting grati- tude of the people. But more can be placed to their credit. Muchjhas been done towards removing' the barriers that were a menace to the peace of our- selves and our Southern neighbors. The tariff has been r¢formed,and1w’hile the Opposition had claimed' that the inevitable. outcome of such ia proceed"- ing would be blue ruin, yet there are more factories going n-iw. more hands employed, and more prosperity abound- iug in the country ai the present timoh than at any other time in history. _Tito * Liberal Government did not claim all credit for the good times; but. as busi- iioss-like men. they took advantage of /the favorable natural conditions to bet- ter develop resources. etc. The grant- ing of Preferential Trade to -the Mother Country. ,vvnilef more _closely comenting Miss Patti!
