,motion that tx-Councillor Hughes be
appointed chairmin. Mr. Peter Mc-
Donald, Teller ot the Merchants Bank
of P. E. I. was appointed Secretary.
The chairman shortly stated the rea-
sons for calling the policy holders to-
gether. He said that owing to a change
1 that had been made inthe chatter of the
company, a share-holder had a vote
for every share and the result was that
one man and a few of his relatives had
secured a majority of the shares and
consequently ruled the affairs of the
company. The policy holders in the
Upper Provinces had formed an asso-
ciation for protection, which indeed
was needed, and petitions Lad been
sent here as well as elsewhere fi.r sig-
natures in order to induce the parfia-
mcnt of Canada to restore the original
terms of the charter by which the num-
ber of votes was limited to 40,no matter
how many shares the voter held. He
also explained that this limit in the
original charter had b~ en repealed by a.
piece of sly leg sl iizon which the
policy holders were unaware of until
afterit-had been passrd through par-
liament. `
Mr. Hughes then read the petition
which deals with the whole matter in
detail. The policy holders present
were unanimous in their condemnation
ofthe law that allowed a vote for
every share and came forward and
signed the peiilions. _
_'Captain Thomas Taylor then moved

following resolution, which, upon he-
ing put to the meeting was carried un-
animously:
Resolved that the representatives of
this province in the House of Commons
and in the Senate he requested to sup-
port a measure to limit the number of
votes given io a shareholder in the
Canada Life Assurance Co. as prayed
for in the petition io the House of
Commons now being signed by the
policy holders, and that copies of this
resolution be iorwirded to Sir Louis H.
Davis, K. C. M. G.. John H. Bell. M.
