' Attempts of an outlaw band to in- terfere with the work of the United States Telegraph Survey and the clleckmatlrlg of their schemes by the hero of the pony express route make up the thread of the, story, cllmaxed by a thrilling rescue of "the girl" by "Pl-l Q. 1.9.x) a... K.C., at the Caledonian Club last night. Despite the stormy weather there was a large attendance. Mr. James Paton presided. Tile lecturer gave a very graphic description of the events leading up to the- ‘45 Rebellion and also a summary of the leading events of '45 and '48, as well as an outline and description of the characteristics of the different leaders on both sides. He described .1‘. l the principal battl- es in which the Jacobites took part and concluded by giving an historic account of Flora MacDonald's con- nection with Prlnce Charlie and her subsequent history, including the part she played in the American Revolu- tion when ehe and her husband sup- ported the Hanover-ion cause, her fate having been, as she herself said, to support two lost causes. Awote of thanks was proposed by the Rev. A.J. McIntyre, seconded by Mr. D. B. Mac- Donald, Bedeque, and unanimously endorsed. C. W. L. M. C. A. Hall yesterday and was fairly wcllattended. The President, Mr. George Brotvn. was in the chair. The executive committee ln their re- pcrt said that the work of the Al- liance had been handicapped during the year for lack of funds, there be- ing a debt at, the beginning of the year of approximately one thousand dollars. The committee finally suc- ceeded in paying oil that debt. To- dayyaftcr sending out two issues of the Bulletin the net indebtedness was $119.49, Appreciation was expressed for the service rendered by Rev. Mr. Eaton, secretary and a member of the executlve,-and editor of the last two issues of the Bulletin. The com- mittee, in seeking to promote the welfare of the Alliance, has kept in close touch with the government and have sought to co-operate with them ‘in “the oversight of the en- forcement of the Prohibition Act. Mr. Huggan in giving the treasur- cr's report stated that whereas a year ago today the indebtedness of the Alliance was over a thousand that today it is less than two hundred and there are still a number of pled- ges unpaid with others to come in on the fourth of April. ' This report which showed a favourable financial condition was on motion accepted. Reference was made to the com- ing convention of the National Div- isicn of the Sons of Temperance which takes place in Charlottetown July 10th to 12th. As a u equence it was suggested that the executive committee of the Alliance and the committee appointed by the Sons of Temperance get together in order that the ‘Alliance may benefit by speakers from away during the cam- paign previous to the plebiscite. Mr. Brown, chairman of the Pro- hibition Commission informed the meeting that he ls making an attempt 'to get closer co-operation between the police department and the com- mission iri the enforcement of the liquor law. He said that to date very - good results are being obtained and he hoped to see even better work in this direction in the future. The following resolution was put to the meeting and unanimously car- ried: ' “WHEREAS it has COIne to the no- tics of this alliance that sometimes, Excise Officers refuse to co-operate with provincial officers in the en- forccment of the provincial liquor law, Therefore resolved. that we request that the Federal Excise department instruct their ofllccrs to co-operate with provincial officers in the en- fcrcement of the Provincial and Fcdcrrll Liquor Laws."
