They are bringing ‘$1.15'per bag of 90 lbs. compared with Maritime Pro- vince stock at 1.25 per 90 lb. bei!- At local points in Ontario potaeots are bringing from 80c to 900 per bag. ln Montreal the potato market is strong with a rising tendency in prices. Green Mountainss are bring- ing $1.15_per bag and Quebec Proli- ilces $1.05. The Gazette of October 27th, states that the potato market is ilrm and car lots are selling at $1.20 per bag, with the expectation that they will go higher. Under the head "Potatoes as Hog Feed" the To- ronto Sun says "there will be none to spare for bags this year in Ontario There is less than enough for human consumption." In previous years when the price of potatoes went high supplies were secured from Ire- land and from Germany but this year neither of these sources will be avali- able and it looks as if Prince Edward Island will have to supply the short- age in Nova Scotia and in the New England states. Under these condi- tions we may look for still higher prices in Prince Edward Island. In fact some schooners loading in the eastern part of the province are al- ready oifering 60c. Prince Edward Island can very well afford to\spars more than s. million bushels at these prices. Hogs can be fattened on grain and boiled turnlps or mangles. lf they are given some exercise they will do fairly well on grain and bran with such raw turnips or mangl`es as they will eat. At any rate every farm- er should 'plan to feed as few potato- es to his stock as possible. CHEESE: The sensational prices recorded for cheese at Brockville last week was evidently not due to local conditions. At the important Ontario Boards the Brockville quota- tion was bettefred this week with very few selling. At Napanee everything was taken up at 16%c per pound, while at Picton prices run up to 18%c. At Woodstock 16%c was bid with no takers. In Montreal the finest west- ern colored brought 16c a pound and western white 15%c, while eastern cheese brought' 151/,,c. Gunn's report stocks light in Liverpool but heavier in Toronto than they were this time last year. BUTTER; There has been no (Continued on page eight.)
