A Letter From One of Your Arts Reps Dear Students, This year has been a success- ful one with many new ideas im- plimented and a renewed sence of spirit among the Student Union as shown in greater attendance at events and participation trends on campus. I am writing an open letter to all at this time be- cause of the call for nomination for council. As your Arts Rep. this year I would like to thank ou for vot- ing ine in last year, I have enjoyed my term and hope I have rep- resentated my constituants fairly. This is my last year at UPEI and I am grateful for the opportunity to have been on council. Any- one who is thinking of running for positions on council I would just like to say “ Go For It.” From my experience / can honestly say it is worth while. All the per- tenant campus news events come to council and it is great to hear them first hand. Decision mak- ing and meetings are informative and enlightening. The greatest aspect of being a councillor how- ever is the phenomenal amount of people you meet and friends you make. If anyone who wants to run would like to hear more about what council does please feel free to ask me or any coun- cillor. Best of luck to all those From The Cluttered Desk FitzPatrick MaryAnne (VPO) Well, I had originally planned to write something for the Gem once—every-two—weeks-or-so, but, as I’be been lucky if I made it to some classes once-every—two- weeks-or-so. However, now that Winter Carnival is over I can sit down and babble for a while, so here it comes: I would like to thank the Win- ter Carnival Co-chairs for mak- ing my life easier during the. fes- tivities of Jan. 28 - Feb. 4. Kirsten Lund and Mary Nichol- son did a great job, so give them a big pat on the back if you see them! Many people have told me that this was the best Win- ter Carnival ever. I think that has everything to do with you the students. Participation has been phenomenal this year (lucky for . Page 4 me!) Thanks for coming out to support the Student Union. We try our best to serve you, but without your support we have nothing. Speaking of support , I’d like to comment on last week’s re- view of Winter Carnival. I’m very pleased that Teri-lyn and Laura— Leigh made it out.to the events, even if I don’t agree with some of the comments. It’s very im- portant to me, as entertainment co-ordinator, to know how well received the acts were, and re- views are a good way to let other students know as well. I could sit down and write review, but how credible would they be, com- ing from me? (I hire ’em so of course I like ’em!). So keep it up Gem, the coverage is great. Al- who do run until the end of the semester, as your arts represen- tative I am available at all time through the Student Union sec- retary, vax mail (account name Kilfoil), the Gem office, and at the mini—centres on Tues. at 1:00 There are many important mat- ters which we would like imput, S.U.. logo contest, Student rules, regulations, and displinary proce- dures revisions and Student Ju- diciary Committee review or any and all of you concerns. I hope this has been a great year for you also. Sincerly, Laura Kilfoil Arts Representative of Your VPO though I think the fact that “The crowd was large and the dance floor jammed;...” is a sign of a successful event! As well, there were fewer people downstairs (at the Razorbacks pub) than at any other main event for as long as | can remember! By the way, con- gratulations to Glen McCarville, Kirstin Lund and Chris Martin, out winners for Campus comedy on Feb. 3. It took a lot of courage to get up and entertain us, which you did very well, Thanks! While I’m being thankful, I’d like to thank my mother for bringing me into the world (Stop it MaryAnne. You kill me) I’ll have another piece of babble in the Gem next edition so until next time, have a great break. MarryAnne Seniors Hi, again!
