I offer the following credentials for the position of Student Rep, on the Board of Governors: - a good understanding of what is currently happening at U.P.E.I., concerning academic changes and their implications; - knowledge of Board Procedures, its methods of decision-making (inside and outside of procedures),current issues of the Board and the History behind many of these issues; — familiarity with the of' the Board; (of these I am openly critical) - experience in working actively and assertively and actively on the Board; - a demonstrated willingness to work many hours outside of the required meeting times in order to better understand issues and act in the best interests of U.P.E.I. and its students; - a wide ranging rapport with all segments of the University community; - a past. record of opposing the University administration, government, and even student council, when necessary, to defend the concerns of students; - a demonstrated willingness to cooperate with and to seek cooperation between all segments of the University - community and within the student body. About the position of Student Rep. on the Board: I believe student representatives must keep students informed as much as possible; however, students themselves must actively , behalf of seek to keep informed about what is happening at the University ie. Board, Council meetings. by attending Senate and Student When students are informed it is their right and responsibility to assist their expressing informed concerns and seeing that their Peps. pursue these concerns. representatives by Simple. but true. At the moment all I am interested in doing is learning the way the system works an to make you aware and try to get your views across to the administration. I don't rearesent any particular interest group on campus so I haven't really any "political' leanings. I have some of my own ideas about how things whould be run, and how the red tape and beaurOcracy should be eliminated, but I am open to your ideas and actions. The most we as students can do is to get \involved and strive for improvement. That's basically what I would like to do — get involved on Senate and encourage constructive change. P.S. I would also like to take this chance to wish luck to all the other candidates and congratulate gthem for taking an interest. Finally, I want to wish Good-Luck to my opposing candidates. I promise my full support for the winning candidate in his work on U.P.E.I. students. It is indeed an honour to find myself Opposed by two such worthy candidates as John and Mike! Thank You!
