But while we reyret the loss of youc services, let us indulge the hope that the change of climate and the other external circu nstances which your removal from our country will secure, may conduce to the complete restoration of your health, and enable you to pursue sueh a successful career as your practice amongst us, though unavoid- ably cut short, would lead us to predict for you in your new field of labor. His Lordship the Bishop of Charlottetown, the founder and the patron of the Hospital, re quests us to inform you that he cordially joins with us in these expressions of good will towards you. With kindest regards and the sincerest good wishes for yourself, Mrs, Canning and family, We remain, Dear Sir, Yours very truly, trcuaRD Jounston, M. D., James MacLeop, M. D. Perern Cenroy, M. D. Charlottetown, P. E. 1. Oct. 4, ‘80. made the fol- ( Com, After which the Doctor lowing REPLY : Gentlemen Representatives of ihe Hospital Staff. lt is indeed with very much regret that 1 feel obliged to separate myself from you, my frieuds and colleagues. I had hoped to work with you for years; but circumstances have ordained otherwise, and thus my connection wih the Cnarlottetowz Hospital has been prematurely drawn to a close (i. &. actively) after a briet but happy period of gservice on its staff. I must thank you, gentlemen of the com- mittee, and those whom yeu represent, tor the courtesy and good feeling that has always existed between us, and which has invariably been extended to me by ail connected with the Hospital in our official and private inter- course, Moreover, I trust that the same good feel- ing may go on increasing from day to day, for it will assuredly tend most to make this good work (the Hos ital) a success. — As regards the Institution itself, I think little need be said abvut it, tor the public have learned to appreciate it; and the tact of its increasing popularity (shown by 1ts full Wards and large out-Patient attendance) speaks volumes, , I am sure His Lordship, the Bishop of Char- lottetown, must feel proud at seemy the Uharity he inaugurated prospering 10 the way it dées, and so theroughly appreciated by ail classes and denominations. Amore truly Cat- holic institution could not be conceived ! Finally | thank you and His Lordship the Bishop sincerely, ior the kind expressions you have used towards myself and family, for the handsome address presented this day, which | will treasure up as a memento of our friend- ship, and work in # geod cause, and also for the honor conferred upon me of naming me Honorary Physician and Surgeon ef the Char lottetown Hospital for life—in my estimation, a very great honor. | hardly think my services deserve such flattering recognition. However. you my dear friends, appear to think otherwise. For my part I must state that the work of the Hospital has always been appermostin my thoughts, andhave thrown whatever little ipfluence and talents 1 possessed heartily into its service, and only regret I could not show more zeal, by a longer connection with it. As this is the last official meeting I will at- tend before leaving the Island, I take this op- portunity of publicly bidding you farewell. Wishing God speed to the§Charlottetown Hos- ital in its good work, and also thanking you tor your good wishes towards my wife and family. —— -— ¢ -—p eo ae -—-—— ~~ Weather Bulletin.
