One oi Boston's best known real estate operators and promoters oi industrial enterprises. W. J. Mac- Donald. died uielrpectodly last Monday. He is well known to many Islanders who visited the Metropolitan Speedway where Mr. MacDonald usually had several trottars and pacer: that he raced ior pleasure in amateur events. Some oi his horses came to the Maritiines and acquitted them- selves quite well. He was a great friend oi the late James MacDon- ald, Charlottetown, and his son George R. MacDonald oi Boston, who sent us the sad news. At a meeting oi horsemen held early this week it was decided lo put on a race meet August 18th to be known as the William J. Brown 50th Anniversary Appreci- ation Raoes. Strong committees have been formed to carry this meet through to a successful con- ciusion. The Charlottetown Driv- ing Park and Provincial Exhibit- ion Association are giving it ev- ery support, furnishing the track and doing many other things to make it a success. Mr. Brown, we regret to say, has been very ill for some months and this nice gesture will prove encouraging to one of the finest officials and one of the best loved men in the Pro- vince. Just three more days and the starters bell will be ringing at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon and the one and only OLD HOME WEEK at CHARiLOITETOVl/N will be on its way. The months oi hard work put in by the Directors will bear fruit, in the best gath- ering oi people that has ever been on this historic race track. The entry list will leave nothing to be desired. with all the fastest trotters and pacers in the Mari- tlmes gathered inre for the fray. A splendid staff of oflicials and every thing that goes to provide racing at its best will be aflorded. In addition there will be an cx- cellent vaudeville program, Bill Lynch's big new Midway, night racing on Wednesday and Friday evenings and possibly on Tliurs- day evening will give every op- portunity to put in a week that will not soon be forgotten. Ii you have the mornings clear don't iail to see the judging oi the greatest array of live stock brought to- gether in years. Dr. l". w. Christopher, Boston, Mass, is being welcomed by his many friends on his annual visit to his native Province. The Doc- tor has owned some of the fast- est trotter; and pacers 0i the years gone by and still maintains his interest in racing, attending Suffolk Downs and nearby tracks when oportunity affords. He was s. great friend of the late W. J. MacDonald. driving amateur ev- ents against him and acting as an official. for many years at the Metropolitan Speedway. Last Wednesday afternoondthe remains of the late J. Wilfred Boulter were laid to rest at Sher- wood Cemetery. The Baptist Church was filled to capacity with friends he had made in all walks of life gathered to pay a. last trib- ute of respect to one oi the finest citizens our Province has produced. For nearly twenty years Mr. Boulter was Secretary Treas- urer oi the Charlottetown Driving Park and Provincial Exhibition Association and it is saie to say that in all that time he never wlas anything but a genial gentleman. anxious to help and to make things agreeable for everyone. ex- hibitors. horsemen or spectators. His optimistic outlook and. great business talents helped largely to put the Association in its present fine position. On behalf of the horsemen oi.’ the Maritimes we extend to his widow. his daughter Miss Georgie Boulter. and son Dr. Cedric Boulter, our deepest symp- athy in the great loss they have sustained. Proposed Golf Tournament Gauses Interest A proposal to hold an invita- tional high handicap tournament over the Belvedere links of the Charlottetown Golf club is creat- ing considerable interest among local golfers. No definite arrangements have been made as yet, but it is under- stood the competition would be open to golfers with a handicap of ao or over. It is felt that such a tourna- ment would draw a large number of entries and serve to encourage golfers with high handicaps in taking pert in tournament elm- petitions. It is expected that. a meeting will be called nbxt week to con- alder such a tournament and judg- ing fmm the interest shown a de- cision reached. J Two other tournaments, the Maritime Senior, and the Profes- sional are scheduled for the local links the latter part of August and in September.
