He was challenged by the Premier, who had the estimates ro-considered item by item for Mr. Richards' benefit. to point out a single item of extrava- gaucc and suggest wherein economy might be practised, and admitted in each case that he could not. All he could say was that "some people say you are extravagant." Mr. itichard.s could personally see nothing extra- vagant in the estimates, and he was it far more capable man than any of those in his party to-duy. In conclu- sion, the Premie painted out that wliereas when the present Govern- mont came into power there was not at province in all Canada whose fin- ancial standing was more desperate than Prince Edward Isinnd’s, at the close of 1914 this was the only Pro- vince in the Dominion which come out with n surplus. (Applause). The Premer resumed his seat amidst great applause. Mr. Chandler followed in an nonc- inic speech which was received with- outa murmur. Irie lauded the Libornl Lender to the skies and falling to cn~ list. sympathy in this regard he de- clared the "Mathieson Government doomed." (Vlgorous applause by Messrs. Chandler and Cummisky.) "lt is up to the people,” he added, "to see that the Liberal party is re- stored to power." (Uproarious laugh- ter. A voice: muchl) I-Ie said: “MIL MATHIESON IS AN ABLE MAN ANI) I ADMIRE HIS ABILITY; ANI) WE GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR THE $100,000 SUBSlDY.".. But, of course, he must attack Mr. Mathleson person- ally in regard to. his salary, at the same time criticizing other salaries. (A voice: What salary are you after? Laughter). .ln regard to the oats question Mr. Chandler made a state- ment lhat "two reputable men" in Charlottetown had told him the oats was badly damaged. Tackled by the Premier. who (supported by a large percentage of the audience) asked for the names of the two men,-who. lt’ they were reputable, as Mr. Chand- ler claimed, would not be afraid to como out in the open and make a manly attack-Mr. Chandler squirm- cd and said he would not give the names. The audience laughed at him, The Premier insisted but Mr. Chand- lor "squealsd," in spite of the demand of the audience. (A voice: No two men at all.) in regard to automobiles he again made a charge on the au- thority of perons of his imagination. Three Liberal automobile owners, he said, were working In Charlottetown to defeat him and his colleague. THE PREMIER: Who are the _l.h`f0`9 '.' MR. CHANDLER: l can't tell you. Init went on hearsay. tVoicc: (Jill) Mr. Wood was thc next speaker. - llc was received excellently and gave 8. splendid address. I-le was followed by Mr. Cummisky, the light commedlan of the evening. who told a number of amusing, if somewhat out of date, anecdotes. Mr. Donald Nicholson, M.
