Mr. W. L. Jenkins, Mill- view, general merchant and shipper of farm produce, has a gang of work- men with Mr. William Mour, Newi Perth, foreman, busily engaged in‘ erecting a large frostproof potato warehouse at this, station. Mr. Jen- kins has, during the last two years, shipped a large lot of produce at this point, but was greatly handi- capped by the lack of frostproof ac- commodation. This will now be com- pletely overcome. This warehouse, with capacity for storing 5,000 bush- els of potatoes, will not only be an acquisition to Mr. Jenkins in his shipping business, but will also be a boon to the many farmers who ship here. His enterprise is very favor- ably commented on by them and en- sures for him a liberal share of their patronage when the shipping season arrives. E. H. Arm- strong, urged and induced a Liberal Government at Ottawa, headed by Rt. Hon. MacKenzle King, to send s. detachmezt of militia to Cape Breton for the alleged preservation of PM“ and good order. The result was to infflame local feeling, and to provoke trouble, rather than to maintain the peace or to serve any other good pur- pose. And it is to be noted incidentally that the present King candidate in Cape Breton South was an unbend- ing supporter of the Armstron! Government in the House of Assem- bly at the time that the present King candidate in Cape Breton North and Victoria was a violent partisan of the same Government at Sydney Mines. When the Conservatives won power at Halifax in June 1925, the Rhodes Government notified Ottawa that the troops were unnecessary in Cape Breton, demanded that they this Province would not pay a dollar of the expense of their maintenance in the strike area. The consequence was that the military forces were promptly removed and peace quickly restored to the colliery districts of this country. Subsequently the King Government sent a militia bill amounting to almost $140,000 to the‘. Rhodes Government, which the Rhodes Govemmcnt emphatically refused to pay. Then followed one of the most sr- bitrary and high-handed examples of autocracy ever practised by a respon- sible Administration, answerable to the electorate for its conduct. The K108 Government, assuming to be- come a law unto itself, deducted the amount of the militia bill from the subsidy payable to the Province under the Duncan award. ‘This: occurred as far back as 1927, andl every attempt. since made by the Rhodes Government to get the King Government to refund the amount thus unlawfully retained, has been me: by a blank refusal. Finally the Rhodes Government. after repeated efforts. induced Mr. King to agree to have. the question referred to the Supreme Court of Canada. The case it will be remembered, was argued should be recalled, and declared that‘ Vote For MYERS crnd McLURE - _ a ~ e \ _ om. w. oncsrmr. s. MoLUBE MR. JOHN H.
