This has long been a tradi tion in his family, but not until lately was it discovered by the rulers of the beautiful little German kingdom how profitable innkeeping can become. When Peter the Great was traveling incognito through Europe, he refused to stop any- where but at an inn. To circumvent this whim the then king of Wurttem- berg puta tavern sign outside one of the royal palaces and, dressed as an innkeeper, himself welcomed the ezar. 1 This royal personage’s descendant now owns two large botels, from which he is said to derive a revenue equaling $50,000 a year.
