E. Island hockey schedule not be~ ing played:-,» _ ‘ _ “Not a _few lovers of bocke were 'disappointed at 'there being no ieaglie match here on the 23rd inst. The' facts ‘appear to be as follows: The Con-‘ nsughts of Cbarlotetown played such a rough game against the Crystals on the 10th that at times there were only a few of the latter's men left on the ice. Both the referee and the play judge were Charlotetown representa- tives. This has not been the custom up to the time of theabovo mentioned meeting-one of either from such place being the rule. When the ar- rangements for the match here on the 23rd were beingmade the Char- lotetown management stipulated that ` the same play judge and refereemust .act. These terms the Crystals positive- ly refused to accept, partly on ae- count of the very unjust treatment meted out to them in the match' on the 19th inst, at Charlottetown, and partly owing to the injustice of such a claim. A deadlock ensued. The Vic- torias failed to put in an appearance ‘at the Summerside rink on the evening of the 23rd, thus leaving it in the hands of the Crystals to line up_their men shoot a goal and secure the trophy for this their second year." ' This is the ilrst intimation given out that the Crystals had been awarded the trophy, the general opinion being that a meeting ot the Hockeylheagtue lla necessary before anything can be one. HIGH CLASS HMIINE ll NEW LUNUUN The weekly card oi' the New Lon- don lce ltacing Association on Thurs- day. Feb. 25th, was extra good consid- ering the sloppy condition oi’ the ice and the enthusiasm of the spcctotors was shown by the large attendance u.nd the clo'-ie attention given to each bent. Several slcighs drove out from Suunnersidc, including Dan Steel, Louis Leard, Wm. McNeill, Charles Andrews and others. ln order to run off all the classes scheduled it was necessary to cali three events viz 2.30 trot and pace 2.50 class and a 3 year old. ln each there were a number of entrants that failed to line up for the word owing to condition oi’ the ice but notwithstanding the races were all sharply contested. The first called was the 2.50 horses and eight decided to try for the mon- ey. Starter, Robert McLeod had his own troubles getting them away, but snapped the barrier on the fourth score Brilliant Wilkes assuming the lead which he held to the iinish. Trouble Maker second Harry P. third and Happy .luck fourth with the rest turning out, in the second and _sue-_ ceeding heats I-larry P. took it-harge` and topped the summary with Trou- ble Maker putting up a .scrap each time. Of the six entries in the 2.30 class only three responded to the bell, viz. Gold Clip, Kettle and Harry Mac scoring in the positions named. Kel- tie made one of his few but usually dis- astrous breaks about hull' way down but starting from a stand still caught the others in the stretch and the race between him and Mnc from there homo was a corker. Keitie winning by a neck. The second round was anoth- er “horse race" lnost of the way but Walter Found seemed to have the key to Keltie's speed chamber and won within himself. The third was easy Mac loosing a. knee boot and Found just jogging the last end. Gold Clip coming second under a vigorous drive by his owner Robt. Fitzinimons one of the oldest active horsemen in Canada. This was Harry Macs tirst defeat and thought dipping his colors he will have to be reckoned with in the future as in the past. Most of the pncers in the 3 year old event could not negotiate the soft zo- ing and only three scored for the word. Brazilliun D. won _ the iirst html. Uillllly BOY second and Dean third but in t_he linala llulilll’ Boy was best and won by n close margin. Dean Jr.. allowed much speed but would not extend himself in the watery places. The time, conditions considered was fast and the half in 1.13% made by lieltio in the second heat was as good as 1.10 under more fnvorablc go- inL!» _ Judges, J. lr. Lockheart, (/harlie Andrews. Geo.
