A TERRTRIG CYCLONE Sweens Over Meunt Vernon. ee ee . — 2 FLOWN DESTROYED. ‘THE KILLED AND WOUNDED. ee eee Curcaao, Feb. 19. A cyclone struck Mount Vernon, III, to-day. The town is virtually destroyed. The loss of life is estimated at froin 38 to 100. Many persons were injured. Mount Vernon is situated in the southern part of the State, about 60 miles east of St. Louis. A special to the Daily News from Evans- ville, ind., says: A cyclone struck Mount Vermont at 4.45 to-day, from the north- west, sweeping around in a half circle, and cleaving half the town; the remainder of the place caught fire. Above the roar of the wind could be heard the shrieks and groans of the dying. MHalf-burned hodies are seen in the debris on every hand. LATER. Str. Louris, Mo., Feb. 19. The list of victims of the Mt. Vernon, Lll., cyclone, so far as known, now number 23 killed and 20 fatally injured. — ere OUR FISHERIES. THE NEW TREATY. TEXT OF ITS PROVISIONS. New York, Feb. 19. A Washingtonspecial says the following is substantially and eorrectly the full text of the recently signec Fisheries Treaty: Within a marine league of the shore Canada ia to have exclusive jurisdiction. This com- prises the so-called inshore fisheries. The report that the limit has been increased to 4 miles is incorrect. The headland ques- tion is so finally disposed of. When a bay is ten miles wide a line of demarcation is to be drawn from headland to headland ; within that point American fishermen may go, but they cannot. fish.- In al! other cases the three-mile limit is to follow the contour of the shore. International survey of the limit is pro- vided for. All parties are to be equally represented, and thus common and exclu- sively Canadian waters will be clearly de- tined for the first time, and thereafter there can be no controversy as to what waters Canadians can fish in. — His Condition Serious.
