and sympathy, Mr. Evans slated that
last Sunday afternoon the 18th High-
landers Band gave an open air concert
at which the hat was passed at-'ound
among the crowd and the sum of $325 _
was collected in a few minutes. - The
miners, numbering sixty.most of them
poor men. raised a fund among them-
selves of $400. Altogether there is on
lu-tnd at present scverol thousand dol-
lars and il is expected that sufficient
cash will be raised to land the con-
tributions in lielgiuin. Should there
he any surplus it will he used in buy-
ing flour and other provisions for the
saute fund.
Mr. Evans before leaving expressed
his great satisfaction with the manner
in which the Fund is being managed
