The theme is not a pleasant one-none of Ibaeiis plays is-but its painful realism is a welcome change from the average film shown on the cenemalograph. Seldom is such acting seen out of the capitals of- the world. It holds the spectator spellbouiid from the first scene of the first act to the last scene ol’ the fifth act. Ibsen shows how the cultivation of a 'love for strong drink in the child of a parent given to the use of intoxlcants ultimately leads to his enslavement and ruin body and soul. and how a child of passion. notwithstanding her careful upbringing, finally throws respectabl- llty to the wind. There ls no happy eiidlng to the play. lbsen tries to prove that there is no earthly salva- tion for those with the hereditary ialnt ofmoral weakness. The lesson to be drawn is that those cursed with organic weakness must be safeguar- ded from temptation until they them- selves have obtained the mental inas- iory. Every parent should see this play, everyone having the interest of the community at heart will learn something from its powerful though silcnt portrayal on the screen. An antidote to the realistic drama is pro- vided by the production of a highly diverting comedy oiititled "Tito Rocky Road to Love." A telegram received yesterday brought the sad news that Lieutenant Ralph Rogers, son of Mr. Joseph Ro- gers, Kensington, liad been killed in action. Lient.
