A yoong man bougnt a $5 horse for $2froma orse dealer in that city, with a written guar- antee that he could trot a mile in 230. The pag, upon trial, made a mile in about six minutes, aud the young man sued the dealer for getting money under false pretences. Connor, of Moncton, has received notice from Ottawa that his tender for Immigration Buildings. at Halifax has been accepted. It is to be a wooden build- ing with a pile foundation, aad will cost between $7,000 and $3,000. Norton & Co. will sell at auction the livery stable outfit of Mr. P. P. Gillia, including some fifteen or eighteen carriages and ten or twelve very choice horses. Ifthe concert in Muy is to be a success, it is absolutely necessary for all performers to attend the practices regularly until that time. Skating at the rink and other winter amusements are now about ceasing, and members of the Phil- harmonic Society should now seriously cen- sider their individual responsibility in the success of the institution. Oreration.—Lhe Halifax Mail says: In a house on Granville street a fonrteen year old girl is prostrated with diphtheria, All hopes of her getting well were abandoned by the friends of the girl, her throat being closed entirely. Drs. Mor- rew and Goodwin were called. After mature consideration it was decided to open the throatof the girl from the outside. The flesh was cut on the outside of the throat near the wind pipe, and after a difficult oper- ation the doctors succeeded in opening the throat from the wind pipe to the mouth.
