The Panther Prints e= _ MUSIC Altan Blackwater Altan music This is a pleasantly musical cd, containing a mixture of instrumental and lyrical songs. However, the band lives up to itsname: Altan, "meaning a slope into water or a gorge", as this CD quickly sends one down into dreamland. As background music goes it is excellent. I listened to it three times and still none of the songs stick out in my mind. It is a good cd; but not exceptionally so. Rating: *** By: Coralie Gill Throwing Muses Limbo BMI Throwing Muses is a rare cross between Luba and Elastica Their andantino tempo highlights the singer's smooth female voice. Perhaps you have heard their song, "Serene", which is found on this soundtrack. This song is attractive to the listening senses as are all the other songs. The mood set by their music is almost soothing, but not quite, thereby putting the listener into a state of thoughtful contemplation...a state of musing. Rating: **** By: C. Venema Crash Test Dummies A Worm'’s Life Arista/BMG - Crash Test Dummies are always easy listening; however, A Worm's Life lacks newness in its sound. You know how you have a favourite dessert but you just cannot eat too much of it, otherwise you will grow bored of its taste...well attach that analogy to the latest Crash Test Dummies’ CD. But if you are a virgin "Dummier" then I highly recommend the soundtrack. The lyrics are a definite attribute, as the deep voice of the singer poetically reflects common human dramas: "If I try hard I may see some good behind all of this ugly". Rating: *** By: C.Venema The Connels Weird Food & Devastation A & M Record I thoroughly enjoyed this CD. The Connels are very upbeat and entertaining. Their sound is comparable to Sloan, Grapes of Wrath, and Tom Petty (voice-wise). The lyrics beginning their first song, "Maybe, go like this: "Gonna plan my deliverance/ Gonna plan it myself/ Gonna stand my deliveror back up on the shelf./ Gonna turn to the only thing that I can obey/ And maybe, just maybe, it won't turn it away". Their words are simple, yet clever. Each song is catchy and unique, taunting the listener to dance around the room and sing at the top of his/her voice. Addto Monday's event of signing a banner in support of designated drivers, and the handing out of condoms, it can be said that awareness week is here. This awareness week is not to preach or lecture students, rather to inform them the dangers that are out there regarding drinking, drugs, and sex. It is to make them aware to drink responsible, and have a designated driver. To make them aware ofthe dangers of drug abuse and addiction, and make them aware of sex. Most know what sex is, but making sure students know what can happen to them if they are not responsible for their actions. All students are encouraged to attend as many events as they are able so they can learn as muchas possible, as well enjoy the speakers and/ or events. Things started Monday with the banner signing in the Breezeway. With this was the giving away of free bars and condoms - which put both sex and drinking into the minds of students. Tuesday is the SEX SHOW day. This is when residences will have speaker(s) discussing sex, and everything about it. All are welcome to this event, so please check for the times and places or residences. This is time learn and find out all those things you were afraid to ask. RCA ae TA On Wednesday there will be three guest speakers in room 111 in the Robertson Library Building. These speakers start at 6:00 p.m. and will run until 8:00 p.m. There will be a Speaker discussing AIDS, with the title being AIDS 101 - so bring your note books. The other two are real life stories, from P.E.I. One is aman living with AIDS, and what he has dealt with in the past and what the future holds; as well a former drug addict with his story. It seems that after the heavy talks and discussion Wednesday night, Thursday will be a day of relaxation and contemplation. As for Friday. there will be a Sex, Drugs, and Rock "n" Roll Pub atthe Bam. Everyone is welcome and urged to come.
