Mr. Siddell, of Port Medway, N.&., lectured on “Science the Bible.” Commenceing wita a definition of ecience and religion, he cou~ tinned the discussion by saying science and religion began the centuries together; eacb experienced stress and battle and to each have been given a long roll of martyrs. Evolution is the greatest thought of the century. The leoturer contended that the tendency of science is not towards the omnipotence cf matter, but towards the omnipotence of epirit, that the saying of Tyndal, “that in matier is to be diseovered the promise and potency of life” is by science of today reversed, and now science teaches that in life i, to be found the promise and potency of matter. Mind preceeds matter; | through mind nature naust be read. Men and apes have a different life history. The difference is a chasm not bridged by physical likeness, Referring tothe criticism to which the Bible has beenjeubjected, he claimed that although the critics had dissected the Bible :ts autherity was not one iota im-~ paired. The nerve of Christain theology was not a book but a pereon, and that per-~ son the Christ. The Bible has teen enlarged to us by new interpretation and investigation, the result of advancing knowledge and growing light. Miracles were discussed and their reasonableness shown because they belonged to the mani- festation of a miraculous Christ. Miracles have bad their day and done their work. God has revealed himself to mankind through two books, nature and revelation, which are in thorough accord with each other. The purpose of their united testimony is tochow us the Christ whois The Way, the Truth, and the Life. This thoughtful address commanded the closest attention from the audience, who thoroughly appreciated it. J.D. &. Bear River, N.&., Aug. 4th, 1900.
