The Journal “The reyolver shot is , bound to be the end aud one morning a civil] war will rage in Paris.” Durivg the adjournment of the cour; in consequence of the attempt on _ the life of M. Labori the audience engaged in a violent altercation over the incident Mme Reeir, editor of Galois, expressed the the newspapers ought to regard themselves as responsible for the | outrage whereupon Mme Severine loudly | protested, saying, *““No’tis you who ough; hap- yesterday responsible for what has pened.” Tle clamor fiaal'y became so violent armes were forced to separate tLe / combatants, and to take away the sticks of all. Peace was finally restored. Mr. James, the socialist leader, who was in court at the time, remarked that the arrests in Paris had fer their sole ob- ject to forestalla St. Bartholomew mas- sacre of the Dreyfusards, and that the attempted murder of M. Labori Rennes was one of the scattered acts of the projected maseacre. LABORI'’S CONDITION Clemenceau May Take His Place. {[Spectat To THE ExaMiser ] Lospoy, Aug. 15.—The Times cor- respondent at Rennies refers to theshooting of M. The following bulletin regarding the condition of Labori is issued: 37°05—no fever. Condition stationary. There is some talk of albert Clemenci«au coming as a substitute for Labori. Buote.criticiz - ing certain remarks made by “ Elector” io your columns a few days ago in con- nection with the recent bye election here. Mr. Buote has evidently written his letter with the intention of creating 4is- eatisfacton in the ranks of the Liberal Conservative party in this cistrict. At present we are rejoiced over defeating the Government candidate, and it is surpris~ ing that he should attempt to discredit the good work done in the late contest. It may or may not be good policy to have conveners and organizers ia the different districte aud Mr. Buste may be correct in saying that men like Mr. J. A. Brennan, who do their best in *uch matters are only injuring the party. At the conference hela in Charlottetowr last summer Mr. Brennan was appointed convener for the First District of Prince County. Iu ac- cordance with his instructions he caused meetings to be beld in the different polling divisions witb the view of strengthening the organization. Meetings were held at Alberion, K ldare, Tignish, Nail Pond, and other p'aces, which were well aitended by ihe electors aad arrangements made to have the Conservative vote polled ov the day of ejection. fhose meeting*, composed of honest and sincere men who desired by their votes to drive ‘he present Government from power, were appreciated by all and assisted greatly in defeating Mr. Gallant It is needless to say that Mr. Buote did not atteod any of ihe meetings, took no part whatever iu preparing for the contest but now comes forward to attack the cen-~ vener, wu0 did the best possible in carry- ing out the instructions given him by the Secretary of the conference. The district was well organized as admitted by our op- ponents in the press and otherwise since the election, and it \'\-becomes Mr. Buote to attack the couv--ratthistime. The large vote polled b) Sir. Pineau in excess of which Mr. Buote :-ceived last year may be a sovree of irrit«: on to him, but 4is safe-t plan isto kee; yuiet unlese he wish- es to completely efface himself as a mem-~ ber of the Libera} Conservative party. 1 remain yours taithfully D.
