Our Managers have knowledge of each local situation and are in touch with crop conditions in all sections of the districts mentioned. GENERAL In the Prairie Provinces during the past week rains varying from light showers to torrential down- pours have been received over most of Alberta and in many points in Saskatchewan and Man- itoba. As a consequence crop pro- spects have improved in some sec- tions of Alberta and the moisture should relieve the feed situation in parts of Saskatchewan. In Manl- toba wheat is headed and filling rapidly. In Quebec good yields of the staple crops are in prospect, climatic conditions continuing to be favourable to growth and mois- ture plentiful. In Ontario crops in general have made satisfactory pro- gross to date. and harvesting of n good average crop of fall wheat is now general. In the Maritime Provinces fine and moderately warm weather has continued dur- ing the past week and conditions generally are favourable to grow- ing crops. In British Columbia crops generally are doing well. there having been a continuance of favourable weather, with mois- turc satisfactory for the present. Details follow: PRAIRIE PROVINCES Alberta - Heavy rains in north- ern and west central portions ex- cept the Peace River district have greatly improved the condition of wheat and coarse grains. The pre- cipitation was received too late to benefit the east central and south- east sections, except the Lethbridge area, where additional rains are required to assure the crop. Ir- rlgated crops are in favourable condition. The feed situation gen- erally is considerably improved. Saskatchewan _ While the rain- fall should improve the feed situa- tion ln the southern, central and west-central districts, the wheat crop in this area is beyond re- covery. In the northeast, where some good stands still remain. and also in the east-central area. pre- cipitation was, light or entirely lacking and good rains are requir- ed immediately. Manitoba —Crops over most of the province are pro- gressing satlsfactorily. Rain has fallen ln some districts, but in the northwestern section further seri- ous deterioration has occurred from drought. Rust infection is fairly widespread. but damage is not. seri- ous at present. Some hall dam- age has occurred in a part of the northern district. PROVINCE OF QUEBEC Eastern Townships and Ottawa Valley -- All grains are progress- ing favourably and heading out nicely. PROVINCE OF ONTARIO Rains in northern sections have improved prospects there and pas- turage has been benefited. Exces- sive rainfall in southwestern coun- ties has caused some damage on low lands. A good average yield of fall wheat is expected. Oats and barley are promising but some lodging has occurred. Rool crops. com and beans are making favour- able progress. Storing of n heavy yield of fair quality hny is about completed. Pasturage remains in excellent condition. Peaches and early apples are promising. Bur- ley and black varieties of tobacco' in Kent and Essex counties are showing adverse effects from ex- cessive moisture, The pl'f‘S(‘llt con- dition of flue cured tobacco in Norfolk, Elgin, Oxford and Brant counties indicates a normal yield of good quality leaf and an early harvest. -- MARITIME PROVINCES Grains are making good prn- gress.
