     Nafure areas award program 
     
    
   
   
    
     An awards program has been established by the Island Nature Trust to 
     
     honour an individual, group or agency who/which has made a significant 
     
     contribution to the protection of natural areas in Prince Edward Island. 
     
    
   
   
    
     Many organizations and individuals have laboured unheralded for years to 
     
     ensure that natural areas remain in Prince Edward Island as representatives of 
     
     our natural heritage. These areas are valuable for native plant and animal 
     
     species and are a part of the Island fabric. 
     
    
   
   
    
     An award by the Trust would recognize outstanding efforts which resulted 
     
     in natural area protection. This would encourage the recipients and others to 
     
     continue their work as well as to enhance the profile of natural area 
     
     protection in Prince Edward Island. It will also enhance the profile of the 
     
     Trust and give greater credibility to natural area protection. 
     
    
   
   
    
     POTENTIAL RECIPIENTS ARE: 
     
    
   
   
    
     1) Legislators who pioneered legislation and regulations that enabled 
     
     protection of natural areas. » 
     
    
   
   
    
     2) Citizens or conservation groups who successfully lobbied government action 
     
     for site protection, policy development, etc. 
     
    
   
   
    
     3) Agencies (government or non-government) or individuals that have established 
     
     natural areas on either crown or private land. 
     
    
   
   
    
     4) Agencies or individuals who raised the public consciousness regarding 
     
     natural areas by innovative educational programs or publicity efforts. 
     
    
   
   
    
     5) Individuals who have done innovative research in designated or candidate 
     
     natural areas, etc. 
     
    
   
   
    
     GUIDELINES FOR NOMINATIONS: 
     
     The nominations must be significant in terms of the provincial context. 
     
    
   
   
    
     Document your nomination with a brief describing the project or the 
     
     person/group's contribution. Include any of the following if applicable and 
     
     available: maps, photos, newspaper clippings, copy of publications, etc. Any 
     
     information that will assist the panel of three judges, who are probably not 
     
     already familiar with your project, will be greatly appreciated. 
     
    
   
   
    
     Nominations are to be received until December lst. Send them to the attention 
     
     of The Executive Director, The Island Nature Trust, P.0. Box 265, 
     
     Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island ClA 7K4 or deliver by hand or courier to
