Rise in the value of imports, which has been general this year, was slightly greater than that of exports, which have had uninter- rupted monthly gains since October last year. Total exports in July were valued at S357.000,000. up 8.5 per cent from 339,100,000 in July. 1954. Imports were estimated at 3372,- 800.000, an increase of 9.3 per cent over S34l,200.000 last year. Rise in imports was due to in- creased purchases from the United States. Imports from the United Kingdom and other regions were slightly lower in value. BETTER IMPORT BALANCE The month's trade resulted in a moderate increase in the import balance to sl5,800,000 from 312,. 100,000 for July last year. In the seven months ended July 31, total exports were valued at 82,-120,100,000. nearly 10 per cent above last year's figure.
