Band gave an enjoyable program of music at the Park last evening, with one of the finest. marine-scapes in the world. \Vith an ideal evening as far as temperature is concerned, it is no wonder a. large crowd was present to hear, enjoy and even criticise the Band. It is u rare thing in the smaller cities to find a band that merits musical criticism. As a rule general praise is looked for by the per- formers, and certainly as s rule neither hcarers or press are nirzgurdly in this respect. In the case of our Artillery Band the day for mere praise is past and the compliment ist theirs in playing in such a manner that criticism not adulation is what they reasonably ask for. A stricter attention to forte and piano, a. working up to climaxes, a subordination of the accompanying instruments to the soloist, these points are matters for attention in larger organizations thanwe can :yet boast, and yet a due attention to them puts us on a lcvei where wekgive not merely musical pleasure but musical profit.
