There will be a speci.! train from Char- lottetown. The drama is a geod one, and the Coijlegians interpret in a very clever manner. ‘Lhey should have a fall houze. —- Newspaper, y) Will » 29 Moyes, Nova Scotia Go.p.—A Halifax despatch says a big find of gold has been made at Gay’s river road, three miles south of Milford. Five hundred acres were taken up there this morning. The assayist says it is the biggest fiod ever made in Nova Scotia. The lead is over 100 feet wide and cons'sts «f fomation nicely sprinkled with gold and galina, which yield $24 to the ton. Fistrana.—George Bvers and Jim God- frev, formerly of Charlottetown, are now travelling through the United States with a boxing combination. Byers is adver- tized asthe winner of eight battles, his last three having been fought the past winter, and as being open to any man in the world at 150 lbs. Fifteen battles are claimed for Godfrey, and it is stated that be has never been defeated. S. S. Hatirax.—As will be seen by ad- vertisement in another column, the wei] known S. S. Halifax, of the Plant Line, will commence her regular weekly sailings leaving Boston on Tuesday, May I1th, and every Tuesday thereafter, and from Char- lottetown May 14th, and every Friday. This steamer has recently undergone extensive overhauling and refitting, and will doubtless retain the reputation she has earned as the favorite steamer of a favorite line. ications City Scnuoor Boarp.—The regular monthly meeting of the City School Board was held last evening. The teachers’ reports show the enrolment io be 1,424, aud the average attendance 1,215. In accordance with a suggestion from the City Council, Messrs. The Dramatic Ciub of St. Dunstan’s College excelled themselves last evening, i wh n they presented * College Boys,” drama in four acts, at the Opera House. As the title indicates, the play deals largely with coilege life. The scenes are laid in Virginia and Maryland at the time ot the war for the union, and the plot iv a very interesting one, The char- acters were cast as folluws :— ....-Frank G. O'Neil! | Horace Bentor....... Alfred Quimby...........eee0 John Campbell Professor Beckwith...............P. F. Doyle Harry Fern......... .. John J. McGowan | Jimmie Spencer...... James E. Flemming Benton, Sr.....ccceseceeees James D. Cam pbel! | Quimby, Sr............Duancan A. McAulay Sk. ER POE vikcerded denadenses Edward . Ryan William (Butler)............Joseph Raftery Tammany (Colored Servant) ....sesres obesh Seceedndbenkhennnaet OMe? aT Mees Students, Soldiers, &e. The acting throughout was excellent, and the plot was skilfully unfolded. The different performers were in sympathy with their parts, and some of the acting would have done credit to professionals. Mr. Frank O’Neill gave an excellent im- persovation of Horace Benton, the light- Learted, impulsive young f#tudent who leaves college to figbt for bis country. Mr. John Campbell, who played the part of Alfred Quimby, impersonated the char- acter very cleverly. His acting through- out was in keeping with the part, and his makeup as the Jew pedlar-spy was capital. Mr. P. F. Doyle made a dignified Prof. Beckwith, and Messrs. Macgowan and Flemming gave excellent interpretations of the parts of Harry Fernand Jimmie Spencer. J. O.Parent created a good deal of fun as Tammany, the colored servant. But where all cid so wel) it is perhaps un- fair to particularize. The ecene showing the campof the Beckwith boys and she arrest of the spy was very realistic, and the closing tab- ieau showing Decoration Day in Beckwith cemetery was exceedingly good. The cemetery and its monuments, with the friends of the departed soldiers decorating the graves and singing “Nearer My God to Thee,” made a picture the like of which is not often seen ona stage ja this pro- vince. Vinoicombe’s Orchestra was present during the evening and furnished excel- lent music. The attendauce was fairly large.
