H. Campbell, inspector Campbel!, Mr Seaman and Prot. | Murray. Next was a paper by Prof. Murray, of Dathousie C lege, Dalifax. The individual in educatioa wasgtue subject of th's paper. | Prof Murray in referring to the central- siog tendency of the age showed the ad- vantages and the defects of the movement in education. He condemned the present method of compelling all teachers and pupils to follow the routine. He favored the independence of the in- dividual. The school work should be arranged and carried forward to form men and women of independance and not faint echoes of their predecessors, A plan tried in Dakotain which the teaching was chiefly individual was, described and favorably critisised. The English,French and German methodsof examination were afterwards discussed and the sup- eriority of the German method pointed out. The great object, however. was to secure able men and wemen as teachers. In the uiscussions which followed, the principal speakers were Mr. Seaman, Mr. Kiely, Rev.2Mr Corey. At the close of this session it was an- nounced that there would be a publie meeting at 8 o’clock tonight at which the speakers would be Rev. P. Curran, Prof. Murray, Rev. Mr Fullerton and Hon. D. Laird. In some of the New York papers a column and a half of space and more 1s taken to announce the birth of the son of the Duke and Duchess of Marlboro. It is an important matter when a new heir is born into the purple ofa U.S. million- naire’s family. The Liberal Moacton Transcript rise to remark,in counection with the dismissal of Mr. Archibald, that the situation creat- ed by the Goverrment’s action is “urjus- to those who are expecied to favorably view the sdministrative acts of the Administra- tion.” This is Liberal for “the minister’s action cannot be defended.” The Laurier Government is ou the down, grade PERSONAL.
