The first coat of oil was laid on Monday last. which was continued from Montague to Murray River. The asphalt tar for the completion of the work did not arrive for sev- eral days, and the workmen were unable to continue until Saturday. The finished job has two coats of oil and two layers of chips. It is understood that with traffic it will gradually become a hard surface pavement. There is still some work to dc, however. in providing good drain- age. Drains on either side of the toad need to be cleared of gravel and in some instances small cul- verts replaced by larger ones.
