S., the other day which was remarkable in its way. The Uounty had been Liberal for thirty years past. lt is, moreover, one of the two Counties which together make up the Federal constituency of Hon. W. S, Fielding, the Finance Minister' of Canada. 'The \'acancy'was caused by the elevation to the Sen- ate of Hon, E. ;\l. Farrell, one of the sitting members for Queen's. .\1r. Farrell at the general election in 1906 had a majority of 250. The opposition candidate, Mr. Hall, has now won thc scat by 229 majority. lloth the Chronicle and the Herald of Halifax, representing opposite`po- litical parties, agree that the turn- over was caused by the temperance .electors of both parties giving their' support to .\Ir. Hall. It seems he izave a pledge to support prohibi- tion, which his Liberal opponent, Mr, i-lerrdry_ declined to do. Almost beyond question it was the prohibition \'ote that did it. On or- dinary party questions Nova Scotia is strongly Liberal, and more so in to take up that question 'political significance to the election in Queens there is an immense mor- al significance. Once the temperance people unite they can make or un- nrake governments in the Dominion, or in almost any of the Provinces. And there is reason to hope that the temperance people will thus unite in both Nova Scotia and New Bruns- wick to support only candidates who can be depended upon to enact a prohibitory law. -There are enough prohibitionists in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to carry prohibition,' if they will brit vote according to their convictions. l'l`oo many ol them are the bond- slaves of party-they are party men at the polls and prohibitionists in the lodge and division rooms. After 'all there is more that is worth tight- iing for in prohibition than in all the :issues which divide the political par- 'ties. Here in Prince Edward Island we have settled the question. It was a _good stroke for 'the Liberal party iwhen they took up and enacted the 1prohibitory law, and it will be equal- ily good for the party that will take -should also take the matter up. lt is of great importance that our Senators and 1Mernbers at Ottawa shall know and feel how strong “the sentiment` in Prince Edward Island _ is in favor of this measure. Where- fore it is desired that as many as' possible of the electors shall signify their opinions by sending post cards to our Senators and Members ask-1 ing them to support the bill ini question. A _post card will do the? trick, and a card costs but one cent. . Let each elector send a card to one of our representatives. Temperance Divisions, lodges and societies Act promptly~send a card !
