ie Foul Conspiracy to Murder TWENTY-ONE PERSONS BROUGHT UPIN DUBLIN COURT ALLEGED STRONG ORGANIZATION FOR ASSASSINATION DAMAGING TESTIMONY OF ONE OF THE FENIAN BROTHERHOOD, Dusun, Jan. 20.—Twenty-one persons, including Town Councillor Carey, all charged with conspiracy to murder Gov ernment officers, were arraigned at Police Court this morning. The courtroom was densely crowded and the streets were filled with spectators. The police arrange ments for preventing any disturbance or | attempted rescue were perfect. There was) great excitement when Mr. Murphy, the} counsel for the Government, said that he} would prove to the court the actual ex’'st- ence in the city of a strong and well direct- ed organization for the purpose of assassin- | the ation. This society or anion had for its special object the murder of officers of the Government, not only those who were} known to be hostile to such secret organiz4- | tions, but of all who were concerned ir | maintaining order under the laws. The | prisoners now at the bar were members of | this illegal and murderous organization. | A witness named Farre) deposed that he} was a Fenian, a sworn member of the| Brotherhood, and that he had attended drijl meetings of the organization in ques tion, of which the prisoners were also members. Farrell further testified that a number of picked men, chosen for their hatred to the English Government and their deter- mination to murder its representatives in Ireland, formed a special assassination committee, which gave its instructions to the secret agents, who were each sworn to carry out the orders given by this commit- tee. A sensation was.caused in court when Farrell said that he received a revulver, | with instructions to stop the Chief Secret- ary’s carriage, and that Jim Kelly and Jove Brady, also members, were to do the rest The pvlice court is closely guarded, and detectives in private clethes are moving! * among the crown. A detachment of soldlers | is under orders for the court. Farrell’s| evidence is a veritable scare. In answer to counsel, he said the Chief Secretary's carriage was allowed to pass by mistake. Farrel! said he wasasked on the day of the Pitenix Park murder when he would stop work, and he answered: ‘* Half-past seven.’ Lrady said that was too late for the job. Brady, Hanlon and Kelly com- mitted the outrage on Field, the juror. His shooting was done at the bidding of the assassination committee. This committee met in the greatest possible secrecy, and issued its instructions by signs, also giving to its agents the necessary instruments for for the work they were ordered to do. Farrell is still on the stand. -~=> The Grect French Remedy, Dr. LeDuc’s Periodica!
