The Cadre notices continued... NOTICE TO ALL CURRENT UPEI STUDENTS *NEW POLICY ON TRANSFER CREDITS* At its meeting of 10 October, Senate enacted a new academic regulation that would allow for the possibility of transferring certain credits from community colleges to this University. The regulation, as embodied in the motion passed by Senate, reads as follows: That a new section 1(b) be added to Academic Regulation 16, “Transfer Credits,” as follows; and that current Sections 1(b) through 1(e) be renumbered as 1(c) through 1(f): (b) Beginning in the 1997-1998 academic year, stu- dents may receive credit for courses successfully completed at a member institution of the Association of Canadian Commu- nity Colleges and for which credit is given at the institution, under the following conditions: 1. Courses must be acceptable in the program to which transfer is being sought either as required coursed or as electives. 2. Grades must be at least 60% or, where the grading system is different than at UPEI, at least and equivalent level above the minimum passing grade. 3% Transfer will be allowed by the Registrar only on the recommendation of the appropriate Dean. Note: Transicr of credit is held distinct from the question of admission. See calendar section on admis- sions. Normally, transcripts are evaluated at the time of admis- . sion for the possibility of transfer credit. As a unique opportu- nity, however, students now in attendance are invited to bring to the attention of the Registrar any course which they think might be transferrable for credit. Please note that “Courses must be acceptable in the program to which transfer is being sought either as required courses or a electives.” Students are strongly encouraged to discuss the possibility with the Dean of the Faculty or School housing their academic program before bringing any proposals forward, as credit will considered for transfer only on the recommendation of that ean. For students now in attendence at UPEI, this process should be initiated before the end of the 1997 Calendar year. All for such transfers must be dealt with by 31 May 1998. John R.
