The Pouch and the Knotted Handkerchiefs For this trick you will require two cheap transparent tobacco pou- ches that have a long flap to fold round, also six colored handker- chiefs. Two white ones, two blue and two red. Take a set of three handkerchieis and arrange these diagonally point to point in the form of a trianglered to blue, blue to white and white again to red. Join them by knots, each made by a thumb tie of one end of a hand- kerchief round the straight end oi the next, pulling tight enough to hold so long as the straight end is not deliberately withdrawn. Arrange the tied handkerchieis with the knots uppermost, and put them in one of the pouches. which one you fold up and secretly place lengthwise under your waistcoat on the right side. For your perform- ance show the second pouch and ask a member of your audience to place the three loose handkerchiefs inside, afterwards folding up the pouch. This done, take the pouch in your left hand. Under cover of your return to the tablehide the second pouch under your waistcoat on the left side as you withdraw the substitute with the right hand. This needs practice to be performed deft ly and unobserved by your au- dience. You now ask to choose the others oi the colors in which she would like the handkerchiefs to appear. When she has done so, open the i pouch, holding it with each thumb‘ and forefinger on the inside of thei flap. This will enable you to break WOOD ISLANDS PRESBYTER- IAN church. On the evening 0! his death Mr. Rattee had not retired with the other membe o of his household and at midnight his wife finding that he was still up went in search of him and was startled to find that he had pas- ised away while sitting in his chair. ‘Charlie Rattee spent his boyhood :days here, attended the "Fanning jschool" and Prince of Wales Coi- ‘ legedater he moved with the mem- . bcrs of his home to New Richmond, gQuebec.
