The Cadre «+ 31 March 1998 Student Union elections BY SUZANNE WILLIAMS On Wednesday, March 25, a forum was held in the Pit for the candidates running in this year's Student Union elec- tion to present their platforms, though notall candidates were able to be there at the sched- uled time The first candidate to speak was Stephen Hann, can- didate for VP External. Hann is a third-year business stu- dent, and he is serving as a Senate represenative this year. He is “very willing to accept the time and effort involved in the job”, and he “looks for- ward to thechallenge” brought along with the job. Pauline Tran is running for VP Internal. A third-year science student, Tran's her big- gest goal is to “continue to bridge the gap between the SU, MAPUS, the Cadre, and CIMN”. The candidate running for VP Operations is Tyler Dougan, a third-year business student. His big plans for the position are to mostly keep things about the same as they are now. Stephen Lewis is run- ning for the office of VP Fi- nance. He is also a third-year business student. The candidates running for the other positions on the SU, other than the Presidency and the various VP positions, also introduced themselves at this rally. Colin Roop, a third-year business student, is trying for the office of Business Repre- sentative. Matthew Hogan, a second-year business student, is the candidate for the Sci- ence Representative. Crystal Doyle, a third-year science student, and Crystal Garrett, a poli-sci major, are up for two of the positions on the senate. Michael McKenna, a second- year arts student, is the candi- date for the Arts Representa- tive. Melissa Doucette is one of the two people vying for the Presidency. She isa fifth-year arts student, and has been the English Department Repre- sentative on Council. Her goal for the office is to “provide a voice forthe students that can’t be ignored.” Although she is graduating this year, she is coming back to UPEI to take additional courses, and is ea- ger to offer her time and serv- ices to the office. The other candidate for the President’s office is Mat- thew Gray. He is a third-year arts student, and he has been involved in Public Relations, has an Audio-Visual job, and he has been the promotions coordinator for the SU. He would like to see students here at UPEI be able to “exercise their rights.” Election ballots may be cast in the breezeway of Robertson Library Monday and Tuesday, between 5 PM and 9 PM, and Wednesday and Thursday during regular school hours.
