ENVIRONMENTAL CALENDAR January 15: Bob Bancroft will speak 0n Wildlife Encounters. This dynamic speaker is being co-hosted by the Island Nature Trust and the Society. The talk starts at 7:30 p.m. February 5: Geoff Hogan will be the feature speaker at our monthly meeting. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. February 26: This is the closing date for the Rails to Trails Photo Contest. Refer to the enclosed article for details. March 5: David Cairns will be our guest speaker on either life on the Herring Bank (off Murray Harbour) or on his trip to Australia. Whichever he decides on, members will be in for a real treat! The meeting starts at 8:00 p.m. April 2: Jean Ouellette will be the feature speaker of the Society and he will provide us with an illustrated show on the Island's amphibians. The meeting will commence at 7:30 p.m. April 8 - 14: National Wildlife Heek. Consult your local paper for public events. This would be a great week for wildlife projects. May 7: Marion Copleston will be this year's judge for the Society's slide contest. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Farm Centre. MEMBERSHIP SURVEY RETURNS SLON Returns from the membership survey have been very slow with only 20 questionnaires having been returned out of 225 mailed. As the Executive is attempting to identify and address the concerns of members, it is very important that they receive as many of the questionnaires back as possible. If you have not already done so, would you please take a few minutes and complete the form which was attached to newsletter # 110 (the one with the maple leaves on the cover). ENVIRONMENTAL AHARDS ANNOUNCED by Bruce Smith The Province of Prince Edward Island will once again be sponsoring an environmental awards program in 1991. This program allows for the recognition of Islanders who have contributed efforts on behalf of the environment. The submissions received will in turn be forwarded to the national awards program unless those submitting the nomination wish otherwise. In order to meet the national deadline, the provincial deadline will be February 1, 1991.
