He was born near Kensington, where, duriog his boylood,-he atteuded school. In 89 he entered 'St. Dunstan’s College, and in this institution he remained for two yeary. His health failing, he eft college, and sought the more congenial cline of the sunny south. After his re- turn tothe Island, he re-entered college "93-4. After quitting “Alma Mater” he fell a victim to consumption, which, after a short interval, claimed him for death. At college he was very popular among the *‘bovs” aud was an enthusiastic worker in the societies. He possessed talents in no inean degree, and was proficient in drama- tic impersonation. Those who attended the College Boys’ presentation of thedrama “Hermigild” °93-4, will easily remember his proliciency in interpreting the character of ‘Count Sisbert.”” tle was a member of the “Re-union Club” formed in St. Duan- stan’s in the year ’93-4 and is the first to ve remembered among the missing. No less a favorite was he beyond the domain of college life. He was well liked by all with whom he became acquainted, and his death will be long mourned by his many intimate friends. His remains were foll owed to St. Mary’s Church by a pro- cession almost @ mile in length, a lasting mark of the esteem in which he was held. A Solemn High Mass of Requiem was sung by Rev. Mgr. Gillis. To his family 1s ex- tended the tender sympathy of his many friends and associates, "31. “oer WINS THE QUEEN’s PRIZE, The Third Prize in the Garrison Target Competition also Won by the Canadians, Shoeburyness, Aug. T—The Canadian artillery volunteers and two British volunteer regiments entered squads for the repository competition here to-day. This com petition consists in dismounting,taking along a platform and through narrow passages and remounting a 64- pounder, the winners taking the drilling cup and repository competition badges. The Brit ish teams accomplished the operation and then the Canadians dismounted the gun and began taking it threugh the narrow passage by a novel method, when their commander, Bridgeford, ordered them to cease aud retire owing to the stores and implements being differeut from those used in Canada. The Canadian ariillery men also retired trom another competition with a British team for a30-guinea cup, owing to being unfamiliar with the conditions of the competion. The Canadians won the cup and the Queen’s prize. The Canadians won third prize in the garrison artillery target competition. The Queen’s prize won by the Cana- dians consists of a silver cup, badge and £110 in money to be divided amongst the men.
