will take place this evening at 8o’clock in
the Masonic Hall. A very interesting
program has been prepared and a good

aquatic instincts of the esteemed editor
of the Pioneer have revived sulliciently to
induce him to xnake frequent prospecting
trips to his favorite swimming resorts at
Quecn`s wharf, and it is expect-ed he will
visit the light-house a la seal in the very
ncalr future.
AT the quarterly meeting of the Suni-
inerside Board of 'l`r:i<ic held Tuesday
evening, and part of the proceedings of
which were 1~eported~\Vednesduy morning,
several of the speakers drew attention to
the inconvenience occasioned by the
present train arrangements, which make
the Railway wharf instead of the western
metropolis, the terminus of the road. It
was pointed out that passengers for Sum-
merside by the morning train from Char-
lottetown should not be obliged to go to
Railway wharf, thereby losing much val-
uable time, before being landed at their
destination. The evening arrangements
compel passengers either to walk to the
end of the wharf to get the train or go on
board at the station at an unknown hour
and wait for the arrival of the boat, also
an unknown hour. On motion of Mr. R.

is but fair to say that the -remarks by the
pastor were very pleasing and interesting
as well as encouraging. The letter read
by Mrs. Lowther, was from Miss Annie
Leard (one of the Auxilary) making the
announcement by that lady of her call to
the barren mission field and her decision
the program being over,the ice cream and
cake were served which was appreciated
by all present. The singing of God Save
the Queen, brought to a close a pleasant
and gproiltabledevening. The receipts
when added up amounted to a nice sum
of $13.00. _ - .

and hope this will find you and mother
and the children well. We have had
a hard time of it to get here. We
marched and fought for zoo miles,
had two battles and three or four small
scraps with the enemy, and then. we
got them on the run and kept them
running' for loo miles so they could
not get into positions so as to make a
stand. We chased then: twelve miles
the other side of Bloemfontein. They
all left the town and in 'twenty~l'our
hours we had trains running from
Bloemfontein to De Aar The bridge
over the Orange River was smashed
but they ran' a scow to make connec-
tions between the trains. We hada
hard time of it for we were on half ra-
tions. Think of going through rivers
and streams, wet night and day and
no sleep, for more thana month and a
half. There were 6o,ooo men moving
all at once; we cleaned up the
Orange Free State right ahead of us
and now we have got them. We- ex-
pect to be stationed here for some
time for I think the war is over. Ot'
