Our Managers have knowledge of each local situation and are in touch ivzth crop conditions in all sections of the districts mentioned. GENERAL In the Prairie Provinces hot weather has caused rapid growth of grain crops in regions where mnisiire reserves are adequate but there ane large areas in whfcTi rain is urgently needed. The loo‘: of adequate rainfall to date has resulted in deterioration of crops in central and yest central Saskat- chewan and over a large part of Alberta. Crops in southern Saskat- chewan are poor. Some insect dam- age is reported. In other parts of Canada both east and west heavy rains have been general and growth has been rapid, although crops are still somewhat backward. In Quebec prospects on the whole are favor- abie._1n Ontario grain and roofs are doing wcll and cutting of a heavy hay crop has begun. In the Maritime Provinces rain has so delayed operations that in a few localities seeding is not yet com- pleted, but growing crops are progressing satisfactorily. In Brit- xsh Columbia grain and root crops are in promising condition, but heavy rains have so seriously dam- aged early strawberries that much of the crop is suitable for jam only. Details follow: PRAIRIE PROVINCES ALBERTA-Crops generally are deteriorating from lack of mois- ture. Wheat is heading out short and pastures are poor in ell sec- tions except the southern. where pastures are good and crops con- , tinuc promising, following fairly‘ general heavy rains. The outlook is bright for irrignzeri crops. and bect thinning is completed. SASKATOHEJWAN- Crop condi- tions show wide variation. In thc ~ east central and northern dis- tricts, where rain has fallen, pros- pects continue good. In other sec- tions crops have deteriorated rap- idly duc to hot, dry weather ex- cept in a limitcd area in the south- east where recent rains have teen beneficial. Generous rains are re- quired immediately. Pastures are dry. MANITOBA-dict, weather is forcing growth rapidly and. on the wholc, the conditions of all crops is satisfactory. Light to heavy showers have fallen ovcr most districts and moisture supplies are adequate for present nceds in the northern area. -where rain would be beneficial. Pastures are in good condition.
