Brown and Company Limited. and Christie's Bread Lim- ited was reported by President Stanley H. Young at the annual meetings of the two Companies. Sales have more than doubled since 1946, Mr. Young said. and added that Christie, Brown and its affiliated company, Christie's Bread Ltd., now distribute their products through an estimated 30.000 retail outlets across Canada. Employment has risen from 1.400 to 2,200 during the past five years. At the same time. the number of lines of cakes. cookies. biscuits and breads baked by the two com- panies have been greatly expand- ed. Christie, Brown maintains 12 branch offices and warehouses from coast to coast. In the post- war period Christie, Brown has expanded its facilities with a new giant biscuit bakery in suburban Toronto. It also maintains a bis- cuit bakery at Winnipeg. In the Peace River area, wheat seeding is completed. oats nearly 'sown and barley seventy-five per- cent sown. Early sown wheat is showing well above ground from Watlno to Dawson Creek. South and north of the Peace River wheat seeding is seventy-five per- cent completed and coarse grain sixty percent. Germination and growth have been slow due to lack of warm sunny weather. In the Okanagan Valley weath- er was cool and windy this past week. Growth has been slow, but no damage of any kind is report- ed.
