ln response to our appeal yesterday Mr. H. C.`Flood,
of the Eastern Trust Company, Charlottetown,_hp.s kindly
consented to act as Secretary-Treasurer of a Fund for
Macliine Guns. This, as we pointed out, is an object de-
serving thc support of every Islander either at home or
abroad and we are sure it will meet with instant success.
The following telegrams which passed between Hon.
John Mcl.ean and the acting Minister of Militia, show
the gun that is most acceptable at this particular junc-
ture:

While on this subject it gives ui; pleasure to announce

Auto Ainbulaiicc has been gratefully accepted by the au-
thorities of the Red Cross Society in London. Mr. Dalton
last week received the following letter from Canadian Red
cross Coinmissioner Charles A. Hodgettii in London. The
letter is self explaiiatory.
“Dear Mr. Dalton.-\’Ve have received from the Central
Dllice in ’1`oroiito your letter of June 12th in which you
state that you have decided to offer an ambulance car for
use al the front. This is most generous of you and the
Society is very gratel'ul for your offer. The cost of such
a car is $2,100 and as the cost of these seems to be on the
rise it is desirable to place the order as soon as possible
to avoid paying a higher price.
“Your proper procedure is to forward your donation to
Noel Marshall Esq., Chairman of the Executive Commit-
tee, Toronto, who will remit the money to us. We shall
i-arcfiilly comply with your request to have the car plain-
ly marked, ‘Dalton, I’rincc Edward Island, Ci-iiiada.’
“lt is very good of _voir to also offer your services as
a driver of the car but unfortunately this offer, we fear,
cannot be accepted by the Red (‘ross Society as all mal-
tcrs of personnel must go through the Canadian Army
Medical Corps. We doubt, however, that you would be
successful in your application to the Military Authorities
because of the fact that _vnu are over military age and we
believe they are rigidly obi-icrvlng the age limit, no mat-
ter in what other respects nn applicant compiles with
military requireineuts.
Again thanking you for your generous offer which we
have the greatest pleasure in accepting."
We may state that Mr. Dalton has done its suggested in
this letter and has already forwarded his cheque for $2,100
to Toronto. '
Since tho above was put in type the following letter
received by l’reinier Mathleson yesterday from Mr. C. ll.
B. Longworth, has hccn brought to our notice:
Dear Sir,--l beg to ciiclose herewith a cheque for $750
which l would iisk you to forward to the proper iiulhorl-
ties to provide one machine gun. and desire. if possible,
that the gun be scnt to Major A. E. lugs for his squadron
ol' tho litli ('aiiniliaii Mounted Rifles now at `~/alcarlier and
which is composed of a great many boys from Prince Ed-
ward island. The best authorities state that one niu.cliinc
gun is equal to iifly additional mcn to a regiment.

triliule their mite towards a general fund for machine
guns. it is to these the appeal is now being made and

ledged.
