John is a street Arab, who has stolen a large num- ber of articles from vehicles standing at the market. He was remanded 8 days. John Goodnow appeared on complaint of his father for being drunk and incapable. He was fined $2 and costs or 8 days, and warned that on his next appearance on complaint of his father he would be fined heavily or bound to keep the peace. A vortrattr of Depaty-Sheriff Curtis is on exhibition in the ante-room of the House of Assembly. The artist has shown considerable skill in bringing out the lineaments of the face so as to give an exact likeness of the original. We de not consider ourselves competent judges of shading, but will venture the opinion that, if the color had -been heightened somewhat, the likeness would be more perceptible and the picture more valuable. As it is, we have much pleasure in complimenting both Sheriff Curtis and the talented artist, Mr. G. W. Millner, upon the fine picture exhibited. We have no doubt that Mr. Millner would reach a high degree of perfection in his art if he had more numerous ‘opportunitics of engaging in portrait painting. —— Al > eI — Ae Departure of 0. &.
