To be continued Says Provinces Can Slop Boosts In Renialteilings UITAWA, Nov. 9 — (C?) - Any Province that doesn't like the idea of the Federal Govcrnmcnt boosting rental ceilings by 2n and 25 per cent, can stop the increases very easily, n Government spokes-I man said today. , All the Provinces need do is to write the Federal administration. offering lo enter the rental con- trols field. So far, none has done so. By entering the rentals field, a Province could replace Federal rental ceilings with ceilings of its owm- These could be lower or higher than those the Federal Gov- ernment maintained. ‘The offer to let the Provinces take over the controls was made by Finance Minister Abbott yes- terday for the second time since October, 1948, However, in yester- day's announcement one thing was missing. A year ago Mr. Abbott offered to pay the cents of administrat- ing rentals control in the provinces for a year. He didn't repeat the offer. However, if a province Wanted to take over the controls, the Federal Government would help prepare legislation and generally make things easier for the controls switch. The provinces have not taken up Mr. Abbott's offer for a variety of reasons.
