' Pechmann. Strange but True By P. H. MacArthur Because surgeons dared attempt the impossible the Siamese twin babies of Mayor and Mrs. Ashton Mouton. of Lafayette, La.. are a- live and doing fine after doctors took them apart where they were joined together, at the base of the spine. It is the first time in history that Siamese twins have surviv- ed such an operation. Virginia City. Nev.. awoke one morning in April, 1879, after a heavy iainfall to find the entire inwn blanketed with angleworms. These wigglers. according to the Virginia City Despatch. were not indigenous to the local soil and were believed to have fallen along with the rain.~ This was verified by the fact that the worms were picked up on the roofs of build- .ngs as well as on the street. Showers of edible clams and lish fell during the 1870's in Cali- lornia. The clams were of average size and the fish from 6 to 8 inches in length. Perhaps the greatest wonder from the sky fell near Sulphur springs. Texas, about 1800. What was it? A shower of blood which lasted about 10 seconds. The Sacramento reporter described the drops as being the size of squirrel shot. The marks of blood were distinctly visible on leaves. grass. and clothing. A week later the mysterious blood stains were still visible on many objects. The strange occurrence naturally amused a great deal of curiosity among those present. Science has never been able to explain this very singular pheno- menon. In Berlin, N. H.. There‘s no accounting for the likes and dislikes of the human race. Here are a few facts to prove it. The Duke Schomberg could not sit in the same room with a cat. Peter the Great built ships yet he was more than 14- yesrs of age before he could bear- thc sight of running water. Na-‘ poleon hated music but delighted in thunder and the barking of cannon. According to some medicns there are three kinds of death. First is "agonal" death. which ends the last struggle for life of the dying organism. Next is “clinical" death, when the heart beats and breathing stop. And finally is “biological" death — which the medical men find so hard to define.
