S., om a charge of making false statements in regard to an application for the Dominion Government fishery bounty. Information was laid by KR. Heckia, and it is alleged that the a seed stated he waa fishing from July 15 h to last November, whereas he did not tish, and therefore it is charge d that he commit ed perjury. The case will come up for hearing on Friday, Buew Ocr tux Gas,—Thursday night child of Jaa. Skerry, on Pleasant street, had a narrow escepe from aspyhxiation. The child was put to bed and the servant girl blew out the gas. A couple of hours after the father of the child detected gas escaping, and on in- vestigation discovered the gas in the room wher the little one was sleeping on full force. The room was filled with gas and the child was stupefied. After considerable work the child was resuscitated. — Halifax Chronicle, 7 Pasaine Wortutess Biris. — For several jays past, @ couple of men have been en eavoring to pass $5 bills of the Bank of Prince Edward Island, long since defunct. It is not known what success crowned their effort. They made two attempts in one store to pase the same bill, but the proprietress after refusing it the first day recognized the bil the next day. Tue concert in aid of the poor, given in | the Lyceum last evening under the auspices | of the Choir of St. Dunstan's Cathedral, was very successful. The attendance was large, notwithstanding the unfavorable| weather, and a anug sum must have been | realized. The programme was carried out | in a splendid manner. All the performers | were well received and their efforts were | highly appreciated, as was evidenced by ol | long-continued applause which _fol- lowed the rendition « the various numbers. Had encores been permnlited | itis more than probable that each of the! performers would have been obliged to| respond. Mrs. Byrne's vocal solc *“ Suy | My Flowers,” was well sung; and Mra. Biske rendered “Only Thee” capitally. Smith's selection, ‘Open Thy Lattice,” was well rendered, as was also the avlo ‘*Car- issima” by Miss Benoit. We understand that this was the first public appearance as vocalists of these young ladies and they made a very favorable impreasion—Miss Smith being presented with a beautiful bou- quet. “The Raine Wine” was sung by | Prof Caven in his own inimitable | & yle; sad = Messrs, Hermans and bull §= added to their high repu tations as vocalists Ly the manner in which they rendered ‘Ihe Muleteer” and ‘‘Anchored.” The solo by Master McInnis was given in an excellent manner. The | instrumental numbers by Mrs. Doyle, the | Misses Benoit and Carroll and the Misses Caven and McMillan were well played. The quartette by the College students was capitally sung; and the choir of the Cath- | edral rendered *‘The Laudate” and “‘Infisme | matus” in an excellent manner—the first men tioned chorus being especially well given. Miss Macdonald’s violin solo was exceedingly well played. The accompaniments were piayed by Miss Caven and Mr. Bianchard, and an efficient orchestra was also in attendance.
